Create an Online Citizen Participation Portal

The creation of an online portal for citizen participation would be an institutionalized government portal that would allow citizens to research, discuss, and oversee formation of public policy as well as locate and log community service.

The closest thing to this so far would be a hybrid of the creations of the Sunlight Foundation, primarily OpenCongress.org. It would provide a portal for citizens to review and comment... more »

Making Government Operations More Open

Answer Suggestions from the Public

Diversity of thought is an important American characteristic. We hold a variety of opinions for a variety of reasons, and these varying perspectives allow us to consider a wide range of options.

What I would like to see are official, direct, concise answers to questions and comments from the public about the major issues of the day. We do not expect to agree on every issue. Two people cannot do that, let alone hundreds... more »

Making Government Operations More Open

Require Agencies to Affirmatively Disclose Information to the Public, as Mandated by E-FOIA

The Electronic Freedom of Information Act (E-FOIA) offers a starting point for affirmative and proactive government transparency efforts. The law requires agencies to make available online basic information about agency practices and policies and, most significantly, information requested or likely to be requested frequently under FOIA.

Unfortunately, many agencies have not complied fully with E-FOIA, have interpreted... more »

Innovations that increase transparency, participation, and collaboration.

Publish all proposed decisions on which the Federal government wants more transparency, participation, and collaboration in a system such as TransparentDemocracy.org, a non-profit (501c3), non-partisan site that allows people and organizations to:

1. Publish proposed decisions.
2. Publish how they recommend the decision be made, and why.
3. See how people and organizations they trust recommend they make the decision.... more »

Group similar/same ideas on this site together, so we really know how people are voting

This site is about ideas being shared and a determination of "most popular" (ie, getting the most votes). As I scrolled through 4-5 pages of ideas, I see many repeated ideas. For example I saw:

- 6 or 7 ideas aimed at legalizing marajuana

- 4-5 about single payer health-care

- several about ending torture (and using the correct word to descibe it... ie, "enhanced interrogation" vs "torture"

Communications Strategies

Promises from President Obama

Unfortunately President Obama has not kept his promise about ear marks/pork and transparency and has allowed thousands upon thousands of these to pass without even knowing what he was signing. He said he would go line by line and yet hasn't done it yet and has spent trillions of our dollars so far without anything to show for it. There has been no stop in people losing their jobs or homes, but by golly that new nature... more »

Making Government Operations More Open

Allow download of complete set of ideas, comments & votes in delimited format

In preparing for Phase II of this Open Government Dialogue, it would be very helpful if there was an easy way to download the complete set of the ideas, comments and votes in a delimited text format or some other well-structured format. Without such access, the limitations of the Ideascale platform make it very difficult to digest and synthesize the ideas and comments.

The ability to download the complete data set -... more »

Presidential Eligibility - ALL DOCUMENTS MUST BE VERIFIED (COMPLETE BIRTH CERTIFICATES)

I wish to ask our President of the United States (who is a "Constitutional Lawyer) if this country and our citizens are well served by not REQUIRING a Presidential Candidate to PROVE beyond a shadow of a doubt, that they are Eligibile for running for the President of the United States?
Mr. Obama, you have disgraced the country and the 100,000's who have died protecting this nation with your refusal to unseal and show... more »

Real Transparency- REAL Transparency

There's too many birth certificate spammers on this board. I therefore propose that all persons wishing to make a spam post about Obama's birth certificate be required to post a photoscan of their drivers license or passport and social security card in the post, preferably with their voters registration. If we're going for transparency, I think we should go the full route.

Stop Censoring the Open Government Dialogue

I have been monitoring this lately. Yestersay the most popular idea was to show obamas birth certificate with almost 2000 positive votes. Now it is gone. This site is a farce just like our government. Just another one of their schemes and they make the rules up as they go. Start being honest and take the criticisim your asking for. You people (gov) are a joke!

New Strategies and Techniques

Deliberative Democratic models of Governance

what has always upset me about this government has been a lack of transparency and one of the reasons why we lack transparency frankly is due to the institution of representation itself. Within political science research has shown that highly centralized forms of governance tend towards corruption for a myriad of reasons I won't get into here. On important issues like health care, though, I know that the American public... more »
