YOu all have heard of eminent domain where the government can require you to sell your property to make way for some infrastructure necessary for the public good. My thought is that this principle should also apply to technological inventions which would really do the world a lot of good. Create a national "Performance Dashboard" on energy efficiency, showing energy performance over time of homes, companies, cities, counties, federal government etc. Use the site to highlight groups that are being successful, as well as the techniques they are using (Technology and Behavior) to reduce energy usage. Use as a foundation for a national energy award (Sort of like Baldridge is for Quality)

The bulk of the stimulus should go to finance nuclear plants so that we could convert to hydrogen or battery in the event of another oil price shock. And hydrogen storage tanks, and car conversion kits. And in making both electric and fuel distribution grids more robust and less subject to disruption or terrorist attack.

Energy Independence - A Comprehensive Plan

We need a comprehensive plan to achieve energy independence - a plan that will make this a reality in a few years - not the 10-20 years politicians have been telling us the past 10-20 years. It is going to take all of the Picken's plan, Al Gore's "We" campaign, even "drill here, drill now" needs to be in the mix to make independence happen.
