Diversity of thought is an important American characteristic. We hold a variety of opinions for a variety of reasons, and these varying perspectives allow us to consider a wide range of options.
What I would like to see are official, direct, concise answers to questions and comments from the public about the major issues of the day. We do not expect to agree on every issue. Two people cannot do that, let alone hundreds of millions of Americans.
What we can expect is that the principles behind decisions should be articulated publicly, in clear, accessible language. When the White House or top Cabinet officials take a stance on an issue, or are asked to take a stance by the public, part of that process can involve a Press Release, blog posting, or similar form of communication that succinctly explains the reasoning and responds to the legitimate arguments supporting a different approach.
