On WYSL radio a financial guy had a woman on who said all those retired and those who lost their jobs might want to "energize their lives" and do something they always wanted. Its' a great opportunity to do so.
Let me see...you lost your job in a tight market and you decide you want to be a actress or actor. Do you think that would feed your family? Or say you retired and your health is so so. Do your dream anyway. What?
Any day now I expect to hear them say how about starting your own business (al la Kerry last campaign for President). Where's the money for that when money is tight (and an international bank wants to use it for weapons, etc.)? We get no bailouts with our own money.
Then when your business is successful and you go corporate to get shareholders some larger international corporations buys it up and moves it over seas. You lose control and your employees in your community are out of work. Your market, technology, and ideas gone to a foreign country because they are cheaper labor (without benefits and pensions). Hey those CEOs have so much money they don't need it. The politicians have pensions we pay for.
The "go back to college and get an education" is a little worn too. We have more educated applicants than jobs.
It's so easy for the rich to be comfortable and tell the jobless to find a job...lazy people!! Many politicians are rich on our tax dollars. They get golden prosecutes when leaving office for their vote.
Stop the fear mongering and false hope in a society on it's knees from poor leadership and policy. Where are the jobs, jobs, jobs?

My inlaws in a retirement community have a mailbox which can be turned on for emergency rescue, etc. Public services such as police and firemen would need to see your address.
First we have to define why any insurance system works. It is because many people pay into it. When you need it (hopefully not at the same time) you draw your benefits.
In a health system some may never need more than their yearly physical, etc.
Republicans forget this definition of insurance. They say it will be too expensive. Yes that is true since they only include the poor, cheap labor, immigrants, etc. (including women and children of illegals). They mostly don't make enough to pay into it or not at all.
Repubs want to fund insurance company profits and cover cheap labor costs for low wage workers. Corporations win big time.
Here's the bottom line of a government run system. Everyone has to be in on the system or it will be too expensive.
Kucinich has told them that a pay into government system by all would be cheaper. Yet the media has those talking heads...and even President Obama on warning of this and that...saying it won't work for all. Lies once again by our own leaders.
Both party constituents want government health systems without insurance companies. Boy is that scary for the politicans since they get money from them.
Europe has health care for all yet aren't bankrupted by it. Why? Most systems are controlled and everyone who qualifies pay into it. We have the most expensive and poor health system of any developed country. It is more costly than theirs right now (and going up faster than the cost of living).
Paying a tax to health insurance companies is just outrageous when we consider we are the most costly and poor health system in the world already. This won't make it cheaper.

Too many doctors give patients drugs which are bad for them and don't follow up on warnings, etc. There are drug deaths and seniors are losing their homes.
Most of Congress have good health insurance so they aren't worried. It's our money which protects them. They don't have family in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. either. That's another subject like health care that is just unfair to be discussed at another time. The elite few live well on our money and labor. It's an oligarcy who can't seem to run the country.
We have huge debt. Obama instead is promising to let tax cuts to top 1% rich expire in 2010. It will be 2011 before the money even flows into our treasury.
Movie stars don't need million dollar weddings, numerous homes, etc. Billionaires are very common today while our society can't pay to run our government. Our large, educated middle class made us the great democracy "we were". If you are lucky to prosper in our democracy, you should pay back so others can do the same.

Believe it or not there is a law that states as the population expands more representatives should be in Congress (one representative not to exceed every 30,000 people).
They have not kept up resulting in 650,000 people for every representative. Not since 1901 or so has Congress added many. It's a dangerous concentration of power to the few.
If Illinois had 30,000 people (population 12,901,563) for every representative we would have 430 representatives in Congress. Right now we have 18. NC for every 30,000 people (population 9,222,414) would have 307 representatives. Right now you have 13.
Try and talk with your representative on the phone. They are too busy and ignore us.
Oath of office and Constitution? Forget it. We do not have "representation for and by the people" right now. It is representation for the corporations who give them money (who write the laws and give positions after office).
With so many representatives they would have trouble paying them all. Our voices might be heard. Our representatives not think they are kings and queens with so much arrogance we can't stand most of them.
It is a violation of our right to representation at this present number in the House.
Since waste has become such a problem to our society we We need to have a agency who can address the ever increasing problems.
They could be under the EPA or working together, etc.
They should also have law powers against pollutors, dumpers, etc.
We should not allow our country business, etc. to dump off waste foreign countries in the ocean, etc. Nor they us.
We could demand products such as plastic toys be recycleable and of a similar type. Same with hospital waste plastics, etc.
We have so much waste they should also monitor and be given funds to do research, recycle here making new produts, or sell our garage to other countries. There is profit in those dump yards and land sites.
Very good American companies have been victims of hostile take overs.
The corporate\company CEOs, lawyers, etc. profit big time but not the company, employees, or shareholders. In towns with only a few industries the community suffers too. Huge debt can ruin them all.
When you think about it the hostile CEOs and directors have violated the corporate charter to be good citizens to that community, etc. No charge is filed. No state outrage by govenment to make it answer for the hostile take over being good or bad. It is against the law and has a huge fine.
Our American citizens joining secret,behind closed door groups making policy, etc.is against our law. They meet with foreign people...leaders, royals, corporate CEOs, bankers, etc. in our name. No journalists are allowed to know what they talk about or who is at the meetings.
This is a law not enforced by our government because many of them belong to these groups. By ignoring them it has given them great power. It should not matter who it is...since no one is above the law. Seems they are today.
What does it involve and are we being used? Looks like the Obama's prospered doing "good". The rest of us won't.

Alstom Transport is a likely contender to build California high speed trains according to an article in "ON EARTH" magazine.
My old school friend and her husband worked for a transport company in Wellsville, NY when it was bought up by the French company Alstom. They bought it to destroy the competition and get a leg up in the American market who are yet to have high speed rail down the road.
Why can't we build high speed trains using American companies and parts? Re-tool the auto industry to do it.

I attended high school in rural, Western NY State. A course was offered for basic business education. It has served me well over the years. It was everyday life like checks, basic accounting, interest rates, etc.

The business and or products extends to many stores and companies. Trust is set up between manufacturer and consumer. You have worked for and have a reputation in the market place.
When starting a new business you have to set up a distribution network. You have certain procedures of delivery, payment, banking agreements, which are expected by consumers.
When old American corporations such as GE and Ford go off shore, consumers expect the same quality and reputation. It gives you a leg up in the market.

It's the government's policy of globalization that closed plants and moved them to China, Mexico, etc. for cheap labor and no enviornmental laws. It ignored their charters to communities, workers, and shareholder. They ignored patents laws, technology stealing, and market theft. Our lawlessness lead us to this point.
Our wars and debt have led to our money being worth less. People around the world don't want our products since we are Empire builders who kill for profit.

Arthur W. Mielke was my minister ears ago. I knew he was a very intelligent man. His sermons were memorable and educational. He graduated from Yale Divinity School. I remember him speaking of the danger of government destroying religious freedom. There must be separation. The congregation loved this gentle, intelligent man.
How different this is today with X-Prime Minister Blair (just turned Catholic) teaching religion and globalism at Yale? Apparently a coup has happened to the religious school at Yale? The Catholic church is allowed on CSPAN,along with Afro American clergy like Jessie Jackson, etc., but not separation religious groups such as Presbyterians. Why is that?
The Presbyterian church was formed in Scotland as the state church (to negate the Anglican Church rule of England). Separation was important. Our founding fathers wanted that type of religious freedom for themselves here in America. They did not set up a state church but a clause to insure religious freedom.
The documents from Scotland sent to the British for freedom was copied in our Declaration of Independence. As we set up our democracy we demanded freedoms from the British royals. It lead to a revolution resulting in the greatest democracy in the world.

I would like to see the Civil Service people handle procurement and over sight. They kept track of duplications, had Whistle Blowers, etc. Years of experience, etc. gone with Bush's "boxes".
We lost a lot of experienced workers and military. Government was bigger with private contractors and it was more costly and corrupt (as Teddy Roosevelt could tell you). Some contrators in Iraq didn't even deliver the service and products which they were paid for. Water has been a problem all along with troops going without (like the enemy wasn't enough to deal with). Some went to the Iraq airport to see water staked there and not delivered.
This failure to do the job and endanger our troops should have meant jail time.
Private contractors could be hired but only on a basis of over sight and transparency by the government agency. There should be open and competitive bids, etc. Duplications and other uses brought to light, etc.
When Congress and our leadership gets out of our pockets we can once again do what is good for our troops, Civil Service workers, etc. Right now it is all cronyism. They have no idea what is going on and don't seem to care (except when they run for election).
I'm not saying it couldn't be improved over years ago. I'm saying the present system is broken and doesn't work for our country. Going back to what works looks attractive to me.
It's not as clean and cut as that. Have you seen that TV program on the slave sex market? It is pretty cruel. Some women and girls even die trying to get out of it. The controllers won't allow them to make their own money so a legal type market isn't possible.
The Senate being abolished is something we should discuss more. They do seem to be "royals" keeping power too long. The elite few, etc.
The House has one representative for every 650,000. It's time to bring in more representation\population. The large states loose out more than the small states. Just like with the Senate.
The Electoral College is seen as a manipulator to stop the vote count at the point of the leaders in power. Not all votes are counted nor vote fraud addressed before they say...we concede. Once again the large states loose to the small states.
Another consideration for power abuse might be the parties who run the whole selection process for candidates in just a few small states. These states are Conservative and don't have the same issues as the large liberal states (jobs, rights, war, etc.). In the end the primary choices are over before the large states have a input.
All primaries should be held nationwide to give small and large states a say as to the candidate at the same time. Florida and Michigan Democrats were unfairly punished in the 2008 election.
The removal of votes at the Dems Party convention of Florida and Michigan just shows how votes were stolen and the primary maniputed before the election. They are both large states put out of the say as to the candidate type and issues.
No Super Delegates should be allowed in primaries since they are not elected by the people but by the party elite.
These practices are all bad for democracy. It's not the "people's choice" but the few elite who have a Conservative goal for government.
Most public schools are locally funded. The federal government gives little in the end.
Those "No Child Left Behind tests" were profit centers for the Bush clan. States and locals have their own tests. Kids are being tested to death (at least public school ones). I have no idea if private and religious schools take the same tests.
In Chicago Charter schools are public\privately run by a group or corporation.
They are not part of the union. The students are picked by a lottery.

Suddam's head rolling down on live TV was just too Hollywood for me. What harm did that do to our children? Suddam friend of powerful people in the US (and X-CIA trained guy) didn't just die. That raised a Red Flag in my mind.
When one thinks of the events and lies over the last twenty years it is more than Hollywood could make up for a good TV movie. It would not believed.

The Constitution is agreement between the people off all states to form a union and a government with certain limitations and rights. We limit them not them us. It is not a government who comes along and decides to do it their way without ratification of 2/3rds of the states (and its citizens).
What Constitution Congress and the President think? What about that oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies both foreign and domestic? We seem to have both. I know they aren't ignorant since most of them graduated high school...many college of some sort.

Religion has to be kept separate from government. Obama ignores it. We can not use religion for wars or our rule. Our country is "secular" with freedom of religion and freedom from religious tryanny.

Yes in our newly founded country not everyone was free to do as they pleased such as woman and minorities (Asians, African slaves, etc.). Democracy is a concept and ideal which has taken years to ripen. It is something which is a goal to be obtained. Kings and dictators were the destruction of many societies so our new country was a big step into the unknown at the time. It is still being pursued and is not perfect but better than most.
We must keep on that path since it is the only one which will keep us safe, prosperous, and at peace. The direction by our government today is why the Congress has so low ratings. The elite few with their greed and lies keep us from being "one". We have billionaires and homeless in one country. It's not the work ethic or laziness which has caused this. Not a good society. The power elite have to let go if they too are to be safe and live in a safe and progressive society. We all go down together. Hitler and Fascism found that out...and yet we are on the same path again.
I agree with davidfarrar. The states all ratified the Bill of Rights. Without it our Constitution would not have passed at all.
To change the Bill of Rights or the Constitution a 2/3 of all states must agree. It is a uion of states who have a government contract with the people.

Doctors make you fill out these long paper forms and never look at it when you are in their office (may have glanced at it before hand).
One doctor insisted that I use a pill which contained sulfates which I am very allergic to. It was in my paper record.
A big warning sign should flash when a harmful drug is given to a patient. That warning would help save lives in hospitals too.

Why build plants off shore? It is a poor excuse that we (engineers and workers) can't do it. We have the technology here in America and don't need to go to Italy, etc. Every technology company in the world does business here and over seas. You name it...GE, Siemens, Allen Bradley, etc.

If girls and women had more access to education and making a good living they might not have to be on the streets. In times of war, crisis, tryanny, etc. women suffer the most. Men go off leaving them without homes, food, with children, etc.

My husband an engineer was constantly taking courses to keep informed and up to date. He had to be licensed, etc. Many professions require certification and extra training.

To stop the power by the elite few we should have a more representative government. Under the Constitution we are to have a certain number of representatives per population.
It's been many years and it has not been adjusted. Like the primaries, the large states suffer the most in loss of representation.
Example: Iowa, NH, SC, etc. all get a say as to the candidates for Presdient. These are small population states plus they are very Conservative. Few big cities with less manufacturing, business, unions, etc. have a say until later. That's why Florida and Michigan voters were so angry.
I am convinced all primaries should be on the same day in every state. That is more democratic. Candidates don't get to know every citizen in small towns and ignore the rest of us. The candidates don't get to ignore issues from every state like war, jobs, enviornment, etc.
Each representative has 650,000 consitutents. That is not enough representation and is a concentration of power. You don't get to run for office and then ignore your constituents afterward. They know you better and just don't vote a party line (if there is one).
You have to have an ego of sorts to run for public office but our leaders today seem to be arrogant and self serving after going to DC. Abuse of power is seen.

Sotomayor has been given a great education, jobs, etc. She's done great in our society. Not giving her the appointment because she's a Hispanic (with La Raza agenda) is not the strongest arguement as far as I'm concerned.
If Obama were to pick a "empathic and diverse" person for the court it would be a lawyer from a public unversity (not Yale and Harvard elite all the time). She would also be an Atheist and a Afro-American woman.
Term limits won't work if good representatives are removed for "back room crony type leaders". Their votes could be bought, etc. (not saying they aren't now).
The Democratic Party Super Delegates strike me as this type of power. It should be the policy that all delegates be elected and not picked by insiders. Otherwise the ruling elite stay in power.
We do what we've always done with law breakers. Give them a lawyer and a trail. We protected ourselves during the wars without having off shore prisons and "unknown" people jailed. It is way to spread fear rather than protect us.

You can't blame seniors for not understanding their benefits. They change so often. Forget the SS offices answering the telephone. They are a "box agency" which was downsized during the Bush smaller government years.
How about conservation and stopping pollution? Over population is also a problem.
We fill up millions of plastic bottles to send liquid products around the world. I noticed our food market (Albertson owned) is full of pop, water, ect. International corporations profit. They care less about us and water conservation.
My neighbor watered heavily every morning last year. They don't pick up the dog poop but water it out. The water flow is directed under the sidewalk and street...parkway causing the death of our parkway tree and the one across the street. The below ground water destroys the street too.
The city arborist had no clue and has done nothing (he promised to spray this Spring). We also had problems with mold on our house since we were downhill from that neighbor. Their water on our property.
Watering everyday and wasting it down the street is just plain bad city management. Even once a week can be enough watering during a dought. Large swimming pools in back yards a waste also.
We educate the teachers and professors for those private schools and universities. Our text books go there too. Private and religious schools do better because of public support and funds. Even student loans from tax payers go there. They would close tomarrow without public funding and help.
The religious schools and universities get public services without paying into the system.
Most of the teachers in private and religious schools (who use our tax dollars) aren't as good or don't have the qualifications, etc. When the do get the education and experience they leave for public school jobs. They then get benefits, pensions, unions, re-training, etc.
Huge immigration has resulted in over 200 different languages in our schools. It is costly to teach them a second language. They aren't as advanced because of language, moving around the country, poverty, etc.
Slow learners and the disabled are part of that public system. That lowers the test scores for all students. It's a wonder we have as many students doing well on tests as we have. The public teachers are putting up with many challenges not even faced by the private schools.
It is no wonder our public schools are going without proper funding, staff, and consideration. The private\corporate\religious ones are sucking the heck out of them.
Even after all that the public system students still are smarter on those college entrance tests. The private ones don't take them or say. I went to university with rich kids from private schools. They were behind and had no idea how to use the library,etc. for papers. They we also very arrogant and not willing to work as hard (not all but a lot of them). Their struggle to get ahead wasn't there. The race was already won by their parents (or so they thought).
