  On Wiki answers, when you ask a question, it knows there is another question like that and it will say did you mean this? and then you can read the question and decide if that is what you meant.

  If on this website when you type in an idea and it pulled up another question like that, it might make it easier for people to vote on one idea.

  So- for this one, I wouldn't be surprised if other people made this suggestion already, but as soon as I post this, I would be directed to a dialogue that lists other suggestions that may have similarities to mine. If it is completely different, I may choose to go ahead. If it is the same as another idea, I will abandon my post and vote for the similar issue. This way there is a more accurate vote count and the number of similar posts would be deleted.

  There was talk a while back about making identification national but it never happened. So instead of carrying a Vermont driver's license, it would be a US Driver's license. If all databases from birth records to passports and driver's licenses were in a national database, they would be easier to track across state lines.

  banks should only insure the loans that are issued and held by them. AIG would have been better off being responsible and not insuring loans to banks that did not hold the note. Personally, I think AIG should have been allowed to fail.

  You know, many Americans were naive about money. They borrowed too much. But how many of them thought that the banks know best? I bet a lot thought that if the bank thought they could afford a 300 thousand dollar house, they probably could. WRONG!

  I think the sad thing is most Americans have learned their lesson and will not trust banks. But have the banks and insurance agencies learned anything?

  Doubtful- considering many of the employees got million dollar bonuses, all the while the banks are raising interest rates and payments on their customers.

  The banks got their bailout money, they should make it easier for people to repay their debt and take a loss.

  legalize marriage for gays

  Who gets to decide if marriage is for a man and a woman or two men? Religion? Isn't that supposed to be separate from state? Besides, not everyone ...more »

  Who gets to decide if marriage is for a man and a woman or two men? Religion? Isn't that supposed to be separate from state? Besides, not everyone is on the same page when it comes to religion.

  It sure doesn't bother me if two men or two women want to get married. Does nothing to my life. Marriage between men and women has become such a sham anyway. at least half end in divorce. more and more straight couples opt not to marry at all. so who cares? if you want to get married, you should be able to.

  Stop letting pharmaceutical companies run the FDA

  How many drugs have been put on the market quickly only to be removed because they turn out to be bad? Isn't that supposed to be researched before making it available?

  It's similar to the auto industry. Car companies discovered that putting bad parts into a car and then having a class action lawsuit later is cheaper than having to put in quality parts in the first place.

  Drug companies can charge a king's ransom for their drugs, so even if it is on the market for just a few months and kills a few people- they still make enough off of it after the class action lawsuits that they keep pushing drugs through faster.

  It's just a plant, just like poison ivy is a plant, Water Hemlock and rosary peas. None of those are good for you. Marijuana may be natural, but lots of poisons are natural. Natural/organic does not always equal good.

  Obama promised to be a different type of president than any in the past. While he has kept that promise to some extent, here is the major way that has so far failed: he is nominating career politicians into his cabinet. That sure seems like business as usual. Instead of having a former governor in charge of the Health and Human Services division, have someone who knows a thing or two about public health in there. I am sure there are some governors who value HHS, but that doesn't mean they know much about it. Usually its viewed as an inconvenient money vacuum. HHS isn't the only area where this happened. But if Obama was truly innovative, he would have found people who are not politically motivated in the cabinet.

  In addition, the application process for federal jobs is cumbersome and not at all effective. There are actually classes on how to apply for a government job- that's a major sign that the process is just a tad ridiculous. The ultimate factors that get considered are minority status, veteran status, has an uncle in a federal job, etc. Not exactly geared toward hiring qualified people. I am all for making it illegal to discriminate, but I am also for having the right people in the right jobs for the right reasons.

  Should also be easier to let someone go if they aren't doing the job right. Seems like its so hard to get rid of anyone with a government job unless its an elected position.
