Bill Clinton?!??! are you kidding? You're honestly going to blame the current financial situation on the Clinton administration. Wow are you gullible. The failure and Fannie and Freddie were minuscule compared to AIG and GM. Look where MOST of the bailout money went. The mortgage crisis was just the tip of the iceberg of a MUCH larger problem of Wall Street corruption spurred on by years of deregulation policy.

and as far as the Healthcare System goes, it's probably too late to nationalize. It should have been nationalized years ago during either the Roosevelt or Johnson admins. The politicians are too deep in the pockets of the insurance industries. Why do you think single-payer health care isn't even on the table for discussion? Because the insurance companies bought that deal awhile back. 72% of the country wants government sponsored healthcare. They are tired of going bankrupt just to get treatment. Politicians spread misleading statements about waiting months for care and bureaucrats being between you and your doctor if we nationalize...guess what?? We ALREADY HAVE CORPORATE BUREAUCRATS IN THE WAY! They employ armies of lawyers and researchers to investigate claims to find ways to not pay out. We could establish the government to act simply as the billing department while maintaining private doctors and hospitals. This would also take the burden of employer-based insurance off the backs of private companies. Health care is 2nd only to payroll (and in some cases surpasses payroll) as most companies biggest expense).

If you want to live in the stone age of these ridiculous political theater arguments of Fear-Factor McCarthyism...look at our country 50 years from now...if we make it that long.

It's funny to hear people use terms like "invasion or private industry". It's the industry that came begging to be bailed out. We wouldn't bailing out banks or companies had we not taken away vital regulation that was established to keep companies from becoming "too big to fail". I agree with you that we shouldn't be bailing out Wall Street, but don't give me this B.S. about "government take over"...and GOD forbid we do anything to disrupt the digusting amounts of money that are being made at the expense of people who believe they have secure healthcare, when it's all an illusion. We don't even have "health"care in this country, if we did we would be promoting healthier living so we wouldn't need to see a thousand doctors for whatever ails you. We have SICK care for the priveledged. The rich get care and the rest get shafted! If the "free" market (whatever that is) is supposed to drive down costs with competition, why is cost for healthcare going through the roof. It's because HMO's were designed to be a cash cow! It's this idiotic narrow-minded cowboy politics that has ruined us! As the Europeans are light-years ahead of us in energy and healthcare policy, we borrow like crack addicts from the Chinese, who we condemn for Communism, but who bankroll everything we do....and you're complaining about some crackpot conspiracy theory that has already been dismissed twice as being absolutely ludicris? gimme a break!

I love how people use completely fabricated "evidence" and build an entire cult following on it. Then, on top of that, the belief that anyone will seriously give this any credit and indulge your fantasy that President Obama isn't a citizen is laughable.

Maybe the reason that the people who run this website keep removing posts doing with President Obama's birth certificate is because the purpose of this forum is to discuss actual ideas that will improve this country, not lunatic fringe conspiracy theories. The funny thing is, your more concerned with whether or not his birth certificate (which has been viewed by independent media sources like the Anneberg Foundation, who run Factcheck.org) is real, than if his personal merits, such as graduating with honors from Harvard (unlike our last president who graduated with C's from Yale), being a constitutional law professor, and being one of the youngest to serve in the U.S. Senate. These are signs of an OVERACHIEVER, not a deviant. Ofcourse, most of the people who sign on to this idiotic conspiracy stuff didn't make it far past the 3rd grade along with their dimwitted parents.

dbaker, your personal responsibility is to God, as you deem him. However, your social responsibility is to this country, apart from religious affiliation. The reason WE THE PEOPLE founded this country is because we didn't want a King or a Pope to run it.

first off, there will always be give and take in politics. you're a irrational idealist if you think a politician's vote doesn't come with strings attached. Some congress person's and senators do their job, which is to fight for their constiuency, and some don't. The real problem is we must keep the conversation on the spending that matters. i.e defense and healthcare. We need a single payer option NOW!

As if Congress needed something else to slow down progress. Why didn't anyone call for a 72 hour review period before Congress votes on a major tax cut bill, which is how we ended up in the financial mess we are in to begin with!
