Well, hey then, kids! Let’s check out legal fees paid out by the Bush-Cheney campaign of 2004, also after the finish of the campaign! Just for kicks and giggles, we’ll limit our search to legal fees paid out by a subset of the Republicans’ 2004 campaign: the Bush-Cheney compliance committee. I’ll even document the searches:
Report #1,http://query.nictusa.com/cgi-bin/dcdev/forms/C00388579/162489/sb/ALL
Report #2.http://query.nictusa.com/cgi-bin/dcdev/forms/C00388579/170858/sb/ALL

The total dollar amount of legal fees paid out after the election by the Bush campaign, according to these reports, is $337,172! And that’s just in 2005 dollars. In 2009 dollars that would be nearly $400,000! And there wasn’t even a presidential transition after the 2004 election.

That can only mean one thing: George W. Bush was really born in Bhutan! I mean, what else besides the desperate attempt by the Bush campaign to hide Dubya’s “real” birth certificate could explain these legal fees?

Go on, spread this new truth far and wide. Bush, the Illegitimate Bhutano-Fascist Pretender to the Presidency! Now It Can Be Told!
The people of this country want marijuana decriminalization. The 'War on Drugs' is ineffective. Millions of our citizens have been incarcerated for nonviolent drug offences.

Sorry your own words are such a burden.

But . ...

"are you suggesting (with your out-of-context quotation) that one who makes no claim (such as myself), is required to provide evidence for a non-existent claim?"

I suppose this isn't a claim:

"Either Obama is hiding something or he has a mental disorder"

Can you pruduce either what he's hiding or a psychiatric report?

Try to find any actual facts(not accusations, FACTS) that contradict the facts in this article:

Bogus "Voter Fraud Charges" Aim to Camouflage Voter Suppression

http://www.acorn.org/index.php?id=12439&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=22383&tx_ttnews[backPid]=12340&cHash=ef14f35f55

ACORN has just completed the largest, most successful nonpartisan voter registration drive in U.S. history. We submitted 1.3 million applications to register to vote from low-income, minority and young voters across the country.

Unfortunately, just as in 2006, that success in bringing people into the democratic process, have been greeted with unfounded accusations to disparage our work and help maintain the status quo of an unbalanced electorate.

After a similar spate of charges against ACORN in 2006, we learned that then-Attorney General Alberto Gonzales had fired Republican U.S. Attorneys because they refused to prosecute ACORN and other voter assistance groups on trumped up fraud charges. This was the heart of the U.S. Attorney-gate scandal that led Karl Rove, Gonzales and other top Department of Justice officials to resign. Because the press didn’t catch on until long after the election, it was part of a successful strategy to create an unfounded specter of voter fraud and to suppress voting.

Key Facts:

1. In order to help hundreds of thousands of people register to vote, we hired more than 13,000 registration assistance workers. As with any business or agency that operates at this scale, there are always some people who want to get paid without really doing the job, or who aim to defraud their employer. Any large department store will have some workers who shoplift.

2. Any large voter registration operation will have a small percentage of workers who turn in bogus registration forms, Their goal clearly is not to cast a fraudulent vote. It is simply to defraud their employer, ACORN, by getting a paycheck without earning it. ACORN is the victim of this fraud – not the perpetrator.

3. In nearly every case that has been reported , it was ACORN that discovered the bad forms, and called them to the attention of election authorities, putting the forms in a package that identified them in writing as suspicious, encouraging election officials to investigate, and offering to help with prosecutions. We are required by law to turn in all forms, but instead of just turning them in and figuring that it is the responsibility of the board of elections to figure out which are valid, we spend millions of dollars verifying that forms are valid, and then separate out those that are suspicious.

4. This has nothing to do with “voter fraud” – nothing at all to do with anyone trying to cast an extra vote. There has never been a single reported instance in which bogus registration forms have led to anyone voting improperly. To do that, they would have to show up at the polls, prove their identity as all first-time registrants must, and risk jail. The people who turned in these forms did so not because they wanted an extra vote, but because they didn’t care enough to make sure eligible people got to vote at all.

5. When a department store calls the police to report a shoplifting employee, no one says the department store is guilty of consumer fraud. But for some reason, when ACORN turns voter registration workers over to the authorities for filling out bogus forms, it gets accused of “voter fraud.” This is a classic case of blaming the victim; indeed, these charges are outrageous, libelous, and often politically motivated.

6. Similar attacks were launched against ACORN and other voter registration organizations in 2004 and 2006. The bogus charges were at the heart of the U.S. Attorney-gate scandal that led to the resignations of Karl Rove, Attorney General Ablerto Gonzales and other top Justice Department Officials. It turned out that it was the charges that were fraudulent, and that they were part of a systematic partisan agenda of voter suppression. Republican U.S. Attorneys David Iglesias (NM), Todd Graves (MO), and John McKay (WA) all were fired primarily because they refused to prosecute similar bogus charges of “voter fraud.” Another U.S. Attorney, Bradley Schlozman, who did politicize prosecutions against former ACORN canvassers, was forced to acknowledge under cross examination by the Senate Judiciary Committee that ACORN was the victim of fraud by its employees and ACORN had caught the employees and had identified them to law enforcement.

7. The goals of the people orchestrating these attacks are to distract ACORN from helping people vote and to justify massive voter suppression. That’s the real voter fraud; the noise about a small fraction of the forms ACORN has turned in is meant to get the press and public take their eyes off the real threat, while those hurling the charges are stealing people’s right to vote in broad daylight. They have already tried to prevent Ohio from registering voters at its early voting sites. In Michigan, they planned to use foreclosure notices to challenge thousands of voters. And if this year is like past years, they are preparing to use this so-called voter fraud to justify massive challenges to voters in minority precincts on Election Day.

The Details:

Fact: ACORN has implemented the most sophisticated quality-control system in the voter engagement field but in almost every state we are required to turn in ALL completed applications, even the ones we know to be problematic.

Fact: ACORN flags in writing incomplete, problem, or suspicious cards when we turn them in. Unfortunately, some of these same officials then come back weeks or months later and accuse us of deliberately turning in phony cards. In many cases, we can actually prove that these are the same cards we called to their attention.

Fact: Our canvassers are paid by the hour, not by the card. ACORN has a zero-tolerance policy for deliberately falsifying registrations, and in the cases where our internal quality controls have identified this happening we have fired the workers involved and turned them in to election officials and law-enforcement.

Fact: No criminal charges related to voter registration have ever been brought against ACORN or partner organizations. Convictions against individual former ACORN workers have been accomplished with our full cooperation, using the evidence obtained through our quality control and verification processes — evidence which in most cases WE called to the attention of authorities

Fact: Most election officials have recognized ACORN’s good work and praised our quality control systems. Even in the cities where election officials have complained about ACORN, the applications in question represent less than 1% of the thousands and thousands of registrations ACORN has collected.

Fact: Our accusers not only fail to provide any evidence, they fail to suggest a motive: there is virtually no chance anyone would be able to vote fraudulently, so there is no reason to deliberately submit phony registrations. ACORN is committed to ensuring that the greatest possible numbers of people are registered

ACORN will not be intimidated, we will not be provoked, and in this important moment in history we will not allow anyone to distract us from these vital efforts to empower our constituencies and our communities to speak for themselves.

This particular "idea" is astroturf because it comes from a politician who's hijacking a public forum for partisan purposes(if it is not partisan then where was this idea when he was in the majority and kept funding George Bush's senseless war in Iraq?[yes I know both parties are at fault for Iraq but it is Bush/Cheney's war and that's beside the point anyway]and why does the only porkbarrel project mentioned "happen" to be in a Democratic district?[now that's what I call trasparency!])and magically got it to #1 on the list. That's why it's astroturf(artificial grassroots) It's a lame attempt to make it appear as though it got to the top by Popular Demand. It should be removed from the site as the partisan astroturf sham it is and this forum given back to the people, which is what it was supposedly made for.

Nobody has ever died from the use of marijuana. Researchers have concluded that it's physically impossible no matter how much you use and nobody has ever produced any evidence that suggests otherwise. Not only has "The War On Drugs" never done anything to prevent drug related violence, it is in fact the cause of it. By criminalizing drugs we create the drug business for criminals. By preventing addicts from seeking treatment for fear of prosecution it cripples our ability as a society to do anything to deal with the problem in a real way. The only answer is obvious to anyone who has bothered to educate themselves on the problem. Legalize marijuana and end the senseless "War On Drugs"

felkakarp 9 months ago
It seems simple and honest but it may be too simple. It's a nice idea in principle but it seems that even related items in the same bill would be subject to deal making and the only way to eliminate that would be to vote separately on every little project of every kind in every neighborhood in every town in every county in every district of every state. But I'm not voting no on this idea. The principle involved is undeniably a good one. I'm afraid though that, as is so often the case, the devil is in the details.

And I do know about the eligibility of our founding fathers.
Just FYI, you can read the writings of the signers of the Constitution by going to wallbuilders.com, this website is a wealth of information."

PROOF of Bush Birth Certificate Coverup

Think about it! Have you ever seen George W. Bush's Birth Certificate OR a Certificate of Live Birth? And I have links to document it.
http://irregulartimes.com/index.php/archives/2009/05/16/proof-of-bush-birth-certificate-coverup/

Just for kicks and giggles, we’ll limit our search to legal fees paid out by a subset of the Republicans’ 2004 campaign: the Bush-Cheney compliance committee. I’ll even document the searches:

Report #2.http://query.nictusa.com/cgi-bin/dcdev/forms/C00388579/170858/sb/ALL

The total dollar amount of legal fees paid out after the election by the Bush campaign, according to these reports, is $337,172! And that’s just in 2005 dollars. In 2009 dollars that would be nearly $400,000! And there wasn’t even a presidential transition after the 2004 election.

Go on, spread this new truth far and wide. Bush, the Illegitimate Bhutano-Fascist Pretender to the Presidency! Now It Can Be Told!
Why Is This Idea Important?
Two issues are really at hand here - one being violation of the constitutional qualifications, and the other being Bush's determination to hide information.

"Funny how Obama supporters seem to overlook the rule of law...
I guess they support lawlessness"
"Seems woodswell is another Obama supporter who doesn't care if Obama violates the US Constitution or even breaks a campaign promise to not use signing statements."

What Obama supporters are you talking about and who the hell is woodswell?

You obviously don't talk to many Obama supporters. We're his harshest critics on this sort of point, mainly because it's one of the things we voted for him to stop.

Look at how my point in my first comment:
"If the President doesn't approve of a bill there's a way to deal with that. It's called a veto."
Is identical in meaning to you statement in the next one:
"The only delegate authority the president has under the US Constitution is to either sign a bill into law or veto it."

And your last comment is written entirely by a liberal who is criticizing Obama on constitutional grounds.

The earliest critics of Obama on a Constitutional issue were a group of which I am a member called Senator Obama Please Vote Against FISA, which is on BarackObama.com and composed mainly of his staunch supporters. Our main purpose was to convince then-candidate Obama not to vote for a FISA bill which included immunity from prosecution or lawsuit for telecommunications companies who cooperated with the Bush administration's illegal warrantless wiretaps. After he voted Yea on the bill and was elected president we started an independent group called Get FISA Right, the purpose of which is to repeal the current FISA bill and replace it with one that conforms to the Constitution.

Yes, you read that right. The first people to criticize Obama on a constitutional point were his own supporters in a group on his own website all the way back in the primary season who have continued to do so. If you read any liberal blogs you must have noticed that we're not unique in that respect either, just first. Your copy of the post from TalkLeft is just one example of many, and I don't mean dozens. Hundreds would be an extremely conservative estimate.

If at this point you aren't embarrassed by your comments about Obama supporters and the rule of law under the Constitution then you have no conscience.

and who the hell is woodswell?

If the President doesn't approve of a bill there's a way to deal with that. It's called a veto. I didn't vote for the same old Bush policies and practices when I voted for Obama twice(I mean in both primary and general, No I didn't register with ACORN wiseguy) He's made some changes in policy but he hasn't changed much of the governing practices. I do think it's funny though that the worst things that Republicans can say about him have to do with acting like his Republican predecessor. They never seemed to mind before.
felkakarp 9 months ago
I just saw a few of the birth certificate posts marked "pending approval by the moderator" so somebody woke up at the wheel. He should start with that partisan astroturf sham that John Boehner magically got up to #1 on the list.
felkakarp 9 months ago
Does it matter whether President Obama's Certificate of Live Birth is forged or not? Actually No because you all say it is anyway, without any factual basis whatsoever to back it up, just like if you saw his birth certificate you'd say he faked that too without any factual basis whatsoever to back it up, and just like there's no factual basis for saying that Obama has spent millions to make sure the long form birth certificate, passport records, and school records are hidden from the public. Give me just one link that shows a factual basis for any of these tinfoil hat claims.
felkakarp 9 months ago
Would this have been a MARVELOUS idea if it would have been in force when three Republican administrations were running up more than 10trillion dollars of debt or just when Democrats are in power? And it doesn't say anything about an emergency/special exception. It says "a 72-hour MANDATORY minimum public review period on ALL major spending bills brought before Congress." It would literally require An Act Of Congress to allow Congress to act. I said it before and I'll say it again:
This "idea" should be removed from the site as the partisan astroturf sham that it is and this forum given back to the people, which is what it was supposedly made for.

1)This particular "idea" is astroturf because it comes from a politician who's hijacking a public forum for partisan purposes(if it is not partisan then where was this idea when he was in the majority and kept funding George Bush's senseless war in Iraq?[yes I know both parties are at fault for Iraq but it is Bush/Cheney's war and that's beside the point anyway]and why does the only porkbarrel project mentioned "happen" to be in a Democratic district?[now that's what I call trasparency!])and magically got it to #1 on the list. That's why it's astroturf(artificial grassroots) It's a lame attempt to make it appear as though it got to the top by Popular Demand.

2)The original post says nothing about an escape clause for Emergency, Special cases, because it's not a serious idea so it doesn't matter. And given the pace that the Government implements things I don't see how you can say that slowing it down any further when lives are on the line can't do much harm.

This idea should be removed from the site as the partisan astroturf sham it is and this forum given back to the people, which is what it was supposedly made for.

P.S. Votes on the value of comments are OK on Youtube, I think they'd be an enormous waste of limited time here.

I'm not using an argument like slavery is ok in some places or equating that to using weed and other innocuous personal liberties. You miss the point completely. gmclam wrote, "The Federal laws which contradict state & local laws must be abolished." That would legalize slavery, since it was never abolished by state or local law in the south. Marijuana laws should be abolished because they're stupid, not because of a question of jurisdiction that was settled seven score and four years ago.

Isn't this supposed to be a forum for the general public? I believe that the House Minority Leader already has a forum for his "ideas(Congress?)" This is like setting up a little pool for your kids in the back yard and the teenagers from nextdoor run over and jump in. It demonstrates contempt for the people this was set up for.

There are now about 1306 ideas. There's only so much time to spend on any one.
felkakarp 9 months ago
How about brainstorming first, then a voting period with consideration of the ideas, then discussion of the top suggestions followed by implementation. And then it's Miller Time!!! Sounds good!

They let each state "do its own thing" alright! Including something you may have heard of called "Slavery." When the Federal Government is right it's right and when it's wrong it's wrong.

Are you serious?
Ronald Reagan and the CIA funded, armed, and trained Al-Queda and the Taliban for years to fight the Soviet Union, just like they armed Saddam Hussein to fight the Ayatollah, who Reagan and the rightwing's other "hero" Ollie North sold arms to to illegally fund the terrorist "freedom fighters" in Nicaragua.
That's right! Ronald Reagan created "Jihad!"
And you want to shoot some poor junkie for it.
Gimme a break!!

Not bad, but I think it begins with a real living wage as a minimum (at least $10 an hour, probably 12) and passing the Employee Free Choice Act.

Excellent point. I often hear politicians talk about the need to improve achievement in reading, writing, and especially math and science. I never hear them talk about social studies such as history, geography, civics or journalism, nor the arts such as literature, art, music or drama. It seems that they are most concerned with skills which enable people to become a useful part of the machine, rather than knowledge which will enable them to become engaged citizens who examine it critically. The reasons for this should be obvious to anyone.

I don't know how it could be done on this site without exposing people to unwanted contacts, but you may be able to invite people to join a group on another site like facebook, myspace, google or yahoo.

Takes a healthy dose of optimism but I'm down with it.

I voted yes because 99% of your positions are on the bullseye. I would quibble with mandatory service, but overall I agree, you should be invited to the White House.

(a)A national healthcare plan that includes mental health parity would cost a fraction of what we spend on law enforcement, criminal courts, and "warehousing" as you so aptly put it. It also would eliminate the stigma of a prison record for people who aren't hurting anyone but themselves. How can we expect anyone to rehabilitate themselves into productive members of society after we destroy their ability to find a decent job, housing, or a student loan, to name a few.
(b)will take care of itself. By legalizing, licencing, regulating and taxing marijuana growing, packaging and sales we give honest farmers and business people the opportunity to participate in this profitable field. Illegal organized-crime-connected suppliers aren't prevented by marijuana prohibition, they are created by it.

How is the issue of how to spend public funds not political? And let's not get personal. Good parenting has nothing to do with paying for private school. Money does.

A profit motive for throwing people in prison - What could possibly go wrong?
felkakarp 9 months ago
At least discussing it would be a start. If you ask President Obama about anything else he'll give you a well thought out answer lasting 2-5 minutes. Ask him about marijuana and all you get is a joke and a flat NO. PERIOD.
But you're right. There's no rational argument for prohibition, no upside whatsoever to the war on drugs, no argument for it that doesn't begin with "I believe" and end without stating one genuine fact. You're right. It's ridiculous and pathetic that we practically have to beg to have a serious discussion about ending what should have never been started.

It wouldn't stop legislators from inserting their pork into other bills.

The so called "Patriot Act" shreds the Bill of Rights. There is no more important issue. Without constitutional protections every other issue may as well be a sandcastle.

Public funding for private schools is just another Republican scam to steal money from the people and give it to the rich. If private schools are so great and the government is so bad why are you begging the government to help them?

President Reagan's mother was abducted by aliens before he was born.

Nobody believes it but my psychiatrist is an alien.

The aliens are voting against it. they don't want us to know.

It's not a government of the Military by the Military for the Military. Only about 1/4 of the country's population has served in the military. The rest of us are citizens too.
