See the video by Paul Hawken. I'd love to read his book. This is the kind of excitement and energy about creating our future that I'd love to see emerge in our open government dialogue. http://www.blessedunrest.com/video.html

It is time for all people who want a peaceful, wonderful future for our planet to make it happen. The responsible young adults all over the world are going to carry it out. We, the change agents, the visionaries, the stewards, the friends of Gaia, her true sons and daughters, will support this big event so that it happens. This is a possible future. We are at a juncture now where we can have a number of possible futures.

It's time to move, time to act. There is nothing we can't accomplish once we start uniting and bringing in an enlightened age of reason, truth, and caring for each other and our planet, with all its teeming life in the seas and on the land.

The old systems are collapsing. Everyone can see that you can't trust the banks or financiers. An economic system is always based on trust, no matter how exploitive. The bankers don't even trust each other anymore. This is the stage where the desperate thieves start double-crossing and murdering each other... the stage just before they are apprehended.

We must help each other, inspire each other, work with each other and support each other to visualize what has to be done in this transition stage to move from the old systems that are collapsing to the new earth way of doing things where everyone thrives, everyone succeeds and has their basic needs met, everyone is free and feels loved.

Our first biggest challenge is to remove the exploiters from power and figure out an enlightened way to treat with them, so that on a soul level their basic needs are also met.

What we are doing transcends the old concepts of separate countries or nations. These tribal divisions served us at one time in our development, but have become an impediment to our development, just as protective defenses in a person's psyche allow them to keep themselves on track, more or less, but at a certain point in their evolution must be shed in order for them to fully realize who they are and experience their own greatness.

So let's take down the fences and enjoy a block party. The quickening of our resolve to spring into action will make change happen through our ability to imagine it. That's our power.

Whether they are yet fully aware on a conscious level or not, the responsible young people of the world, the leaders of our future, are planning a coordinated effort to alleviate suffering in the world, to make sure that everyone is housed and fed, given opportunities for work, training, and an education, have their health needs met, and are well cared for in their communities. These young people also care deeply for the earth and are working out ways for us to live in harmony with all life on the planet.

Their altruism is outstanding.

We need to provide a blueprint for the young people of the beautiful future we envision (and how to get from here to there), a vision that differs dramatically from that of the prison planet of endless war, poverty, suffering and oppression that we now face unless something different is put into place immediately.

This is a challenge of creating. We do not have to engage in struggle; we need to remember that it takes two to fight. Fighting is the old way to get what you want. We have to find other ways to create what we want because fighting will not get us there. This may be the single biggest lesson that most of us must learn, if we have not already learned it. The minute that we begin fighting with others and judging them, our effectiveness diminishes.

Right now is the time to move into action. Having clarity of purpose and vision is imperative.

We have all the wisdom we need. We Let's move forward to create the world of our dreams, to shift the energy on this planet to enlightenment and love.
We are becoming more connected with each other.

The transition to a more open government can come quickly through collaborations of like-minded people who suddenly find themselves empowered to work with others without difficulty to create what is needed, almost miraculously. That is my sense of how it will happen.

We empower each other by being willing to work together to find common ground and by expressing good will even though our opinions may differ. We share the basic values of being open, willing, and resolved to find solutions to our common problems.

We are now capable of creating the world we want. There is nothing holding us back. We can determine what happens next. If we say war is over, then it is. That simple. We can end all the wars in the world through our collective intention that war is over.

Creating an Economic and Political Taskforce

A useful project for AmeriCorps citizens to work on together (I wholeheartedly support the call for meaningful work projects, not just offering stories and sharing views) is creating an economic and political transition taskforce.

Mission of the Transition Taskforce:
#1 Close Failed Banks and Investment Firms

The mission of the transition taskforce will first be to oversee closure of the major banks and Wall Street investment firms that have failed (if they got a government bailout, they failed), and to prosecute the executives who have criminal liability for mismanaging funds.

#2 Investigate and Prosecute Corrupt Government Officials

Then the Transition Taskforce will be authorized to investigate corruption in elected government officials at all levels, to pursue criminal prosecution where appropriate, and to oversee elections to replace these officials. These elections are to be transparent and fair to ensure that every vote is counted fairly. International monitors should be welcomed at these elections to ensure that they are carried out democratically, freely and fairly.

#3 Create a Harmonious International Monetary System: End the Hegemony of the U.S. Dollar

While the housecleaning is being carried out, the transition team could initiate a number of projects to be worked on in a collaborative manner (with people participating from countries all over the world), to create an international monetary system that addresses the issues facing everyone, of living in harmony with our environment and each other. In the pursuit of fairness, an equitable forgiveness of debts and trade agreements could be negotiated using currency swaps instead of continuing the use of the U.S. dollar as the world's foreign currency reserve.

Using Technology to Involve Everyone in the Discussion

This could easily be done in a number of ways, stimulating discussion by people all over the world to come up with a better system for everyone. (The United States cannot make policy today as though it were in geographical isolation. We are one planet, and the U.S. needs to get it together with other people.) Many platforms and media could be used to carry on these discussions and facilitate decision-making, not only the Internet and face to face on Skype or other such programs, but also through podcasts and videos. There could be even be transitional television and radio programs with people coming in live to put in their two cents worth.

Transition Team Guides Global Brainstorming Session

This process has to be open discourse, with everyone jumping in and having their say. Every idea should be considered. This brainstorming session needs to go on for a good while, several months at least, before the taskforce moves to the next transitional phase of consensus building.

Identify People Who Excel at Consensus Building

Consensus building must have great people involved who are really skilled at getting people on the same page with very different ideas and approaches to problems. Are there any people capable of doing this in the entire planet? Perhaps there could be a contest, a highly publicized one, in which trial balloons are floated and people are given a chance to see what they can do. The winners of the contest would be given paid positions to carry out the consensus building phase of creating new systems. This would necessarily involve people from many different countries.

We cannot look to any one leader or even political party or even one country alone to address the problems that we face today. This is an effort that must involve anyone who is willing to apply themselves to the work ahead of us, to steward our planet and have a good world of sufficient supplies, in order for everyone in the world and for all of our children to enjoy a good life.
The U.S. has got a hell of a mess to clean up, with the failure of major banks and investment firms that have had a negative impact on the global economy and hurt people everywhere -- and that was from a failure to regulate due to corruption in the government, which still has not been acknowledged or addressed.

There is no moral standing whatsoever at this point to police other countries or to tell any other country what they need to improve on, no, not when the U.S. has been fighting aggressive wars for profit and torturing prisoners, allowing war criminals and profiteers to operate unchecked and scam artists to run the major financial centers.

So it makes all the sense in the world to befriend China and not diss it... and especially not go about provoking it militarily. It's crazy, is what it is. And what's this about passing a military budget of 91 billion dollars to prepare to fight on multiple fronts? It's the biggest military buildup the world has ever seen and it sends a very clear message to China and other countries that the U.S. has every intention of fighting for what it wants.

How do you get an entire country to snap out of its' mass psychosis of megalomania? What does it take for average Americans to see that we do not want to go down the path of Armegeddon. It's old thinking. It isn't necessary. It really isn't necessary. If the U.S. were to disarm and start being rational about what can be done to turn things around, other countries would no longer engage in this massive military build-up that can only lead to global war and more suffering and misery... is that really what people want?

I mean, get real. We've got all this great technology and breakthroughs today. Everyone could be prospering. Yeah, everyone. It's possible. Just get out of this mindset that you've gotta be stronger than everyone else. Can we just respect each other as equals? The sooner Americans get it that we're not superior to anyone else and we don't deserve any more than anyone else, and learn to share, then we can start to have win/win relations with China and just about everybody else, too. It's that simple.

I agree with some of your statements. I can't quite get an overview of how this would work, though. And what happens to China if the U.S. converts to this system? How does the U.S. repay the trillion dollars China has invested?

I don't think you can apply "local" currencies and just ignore the interconnectedness in today's global economy. The U.S. owes a tremendous amount of money to China, Japan, and other investors in our economy. Any new monetary system put in place is going to have to address their concerns as investors who have in effect been loaning money to the U.S. and keeping it afloat.

An affidavit is basic, what would really get some accountability is requiring a basic comprehension test be passed before they could vote. Even better would be a discussion with constitutuents on the pros and cons of the bill.

Why not just have voters do the voting directly? It's possible with the present state of technology. Obviously the system of having representatives doesn't work or it wouldn't have gotten so corrupted and unaccountable to the needs of the average person.

Sounds like pouring concrete.

Sensible ideas, better than voting at McDonald's, perhaps, as I suggested.

I say it's worth a try. Gotta be better than what we've got.

Seems logical... but what about mail-in ballots being counted? Most places have 30 days to complete the count. I've never noticed that it changed the outcome once the electronic ballots are counted -- the winner is announced thenext day. So mailing in a ballot is a bad idea, even if it has more transparency.

You've put a great deal of thought into how categories might be set up. Excellent work!

I'm on a list from AfterDowningStreet.org, so I received an e-mail message on May 27 encouraging people to participate in this forum.

Thank you for advocating for better enforcement of laws to protect the environment. I am listening to you and I like what you say... a lot.

This practice of blasting off mountaintops has to be stopped! And we need the wetlands... we must cherish our rich environment instead of plundering it. Really, there could be an entirely different economic system that puts true value on what is really valuable, and our ecosystem is far more valuable than any profit someone might make from despoiling it.

We need to remove the blinders of old ideas about what is necessary for people to survive... they're bad ideas because clean air and water are right up there, more than money. What is money anyways? It should just be a tool that makes transactions easier. How did it ever start wagging the tail instead?

I agree with you. This voting process makes me nervous, although it appears to be a good idea. I just went through most of the 86 ideas on New Tools and Technologies and found some terrific ideas with low or negative votes. Perhaps the vote could be graphed (like a stock exchange), but I've already received an e-mail asking me to vote on an idea, so already we may be dealing with voting blocks... uggh!

This is a terrific idea! I'll follow up on your links because I'd like to see how it's being applied.

China already uses motion sensor activated lights to conserve energy. Sounds reasonable to me.

I'm so tired of this kind of old thinking about security and threats. It doesn't have to be this kind of world at all.

Robert,

I couldn't agree with you more about freeing Obama, although I don't have a clue on how to go about it. I think a key fact to keep in mind is the way his grandmother died on the eve of his inauguration, just as Clinton's mother died on the eve of his inauguration. Coincidence? Probably just as much as Wellstone dying in a small plane crash in the same manner as Mel Carnahan. I believe that the death of his grandmother, just as he was stepping into office, was a diabolical maneuver to keep him in line, with the threat that it could happen to him or to anyone he loves. You have to keep in mind the threats made against his life while he was in Hawaii before he took office as well. The people in power behind the scenes are utterly ruthless and terribly evil, more evil than people can scan on their radar.

Lisa, I support your ideas of training people in neighborhoods and organizations in how to engage in productive forms of dialogues and foster collaboration. I especially like the perspective you bring of tapping into "rich knowledge and cultural diversity" in the process. Mentoring community facilitators is also an excellent idea.
The concept of inviting people to participate who can operate from a higher level than ego, of those who value serving their community more than self-gratification, is also a key concept to your proposal. I like this idea a lot of inviting a diverse group of people to work together to make sure that everyone gets included in the process.

Terrific ideas, Deanna! Wisdom Councils could also be formed through this process to resolve neighborhood conflicts in creative ways. An example that immediately surfaces for me is that every rural community hosting a prison could also benefit from exploring alternative ways to create jobs and address the issues that incarceration supposedly resolves. Wisdom Councils could be formed on a more permanent basis as well, giving a voice to people who feel oppressed.

Encouraging political activism at the grassroots level could lead to a strong democracy, and starting at the local level is a logical place to begin.

Some countries make election day a national holiday. Everyone gets the day off to go vote. Why not do that here? The government could even enter some kind of arrangement with a chain like McDonald's that anyone can easily find anywhere in the U.S. to make finding the place to vote easier.

Here's some transition ideas: 1) Create a website dedicated to political involvement and poll the voters before any vote in Congress, 2) open a chat room for people to discuss issues that are going to a vote, 3) have virtual town hall meetings for public hearings.

Paul,
I like the way you think. Just imagine, we could build a vibrant industry of clean energy that would provide jobs and economic stimulus. Instead our Congress just approved $91 billion for military spending, i.e., weapons of mass destruction, intelligence gathering (spying), war games on the oceans, training the militia of other countries, etc. Yours is the voice of sanity in a country gone insane. Keep talking. The more of us who raise our voice, the closer a viable future comes.

One world government is a BAAAAADDDDD idea. Think small. Think diversity. Think local.

One world government is exactly what the wealthiest people in the world want to consolidate their control.
libertyferall 8 months ago
It boggles the mind when you really consider how we could use the Internet to fully participate in governing ourselves. eGov certainly could make a centralized government obsolete, and it needs to happen! We don't really need this website to address these issues. If the central government can't or won't address what needs to be done, then it's best to treat it as a mountain that you go around instead of trying to climb. When large numbers of people get activated to take the situation in hand, then we'll get real change. It won't come from any single person, and I really don't think it will come from those who are presently in power.
libertyferall 8 months ago
Ah ha! Consequences for malfeasance in office. I wonder when that idea got discarded?

Hear! Hear! What a novel idea! Eliminate most secrets and then you might find the truth, kind of like shoveling a room full of manure out to find the donkey.
