Under rules instituted during the Bush administration, the Executive Branch at its sole discretion can declare an organization to be terrorist, making it illegal to supply funds or other resources to said organization.

One of the worst terrorist attacks in recent memory has been the invasion and occupation of Iraq, which led to the deaths of millions of Iraqis. This occupation was conceived, planned, and executed by agents of the Republican Party. Said party has also directed billions of dollars of US public money towards the support of terrorist attacks by the Israeli government against the people of Gaza and against its neighbors.

The RNC has far more blood on its hands than Hamas or any of the other groups the Bush administration declared to be illegal. Not only does the RNC support blatant and bloody terrorism, they've used trillions of our tax dollars to do it and wrecked our economy in the process. Let's apply their own rules to help bring them to justice.

Gosh, gto48bin, if you're so much smarter than I am, you should have no trouble refuting the reasoning in my idea. You can do that, right?

In fact, there are other countries like Sweden, France, Canada, etc. that would certainly be considered socialist by your standards, yet they don't have the kind of restrictions you're talking about. In any of them I could have posted the same thing I posted here.

On the other hand, do you remember the Sedition Act? The McCarthy hearings? COINTENPRO? Most of the significant threats to free speech and other civil liberties in the USA have come from right-wingers.

Now, the latest Republican administration has given us the so-called Patriot Act, warrantless wiretapping and e-mail surveillance, detention without charges, torture, and the list goes on. All of these are ways of curtailing liberty. The Democrats, to their shame, have failed to enforce laws against these crimes and have even continued many of them, but they certainly didn't start them.

Thinking for oneself is a good thing. Just saying.

"You think the RNC is worse than terrorist groups?"

I think the RNC *is* a terrorist group. It is responsible for an invasion and occupation which killed hundreds if not thousands of times as many innocent people as the "9/11" attacks.

Trying to force political change through violence against innocent civilians is terrorism. That's true when bin Laden does it and it's equally true when Bush and Cheney do it. Hiding behind a veneer of respectability doesn't change the fact that Republicans have far more blood on their hands than the people they want us to be afraid of.

Oh, and I think the word you want in that last sentence is "hole," not "hold". But what do I know, I'm just an idiot.

"I would worry that this could have the affect of crippling governement."

Of course, that's the point. Keeping Democrats ineffective gives Republicans the best chance to return to power -- and if they do, they can ignore this rule just like they ignore other laws.

Reagan also believed in communist conspiracies and Cadillac-driving welfare queens.
