Encourage E85 and flex fuel, in addition to drilling American oil. Also study the impact on health dietary changes contributed to by rising corn prices could have. We assume corn being a cheap foodstuff is good for the poor, but conscidering the current rate of diabetes and obesity, this is a leap of logic. Might another cheap, subsidized staple food be healthier and free up corn for energy and transportation?? I'm not asserting that this is the case, but rather that it should be studied before we assume rising corn prices from E85 will hurt the poor--through dietary changes, it may actually help. This bears further investigation.

problem is what philosophy and what thinking?? When you educate someone in philosophy and how to think, you also teach them What to think and thus how to vote--this is why education gets so politicized. Probably best to learn the 3R's and have an idea of how government processes work without being indoctrinated in any philosophy by a government run school.

some laundry detergent companies use genetically engeneered bacteria to make "stain removing" enzymes-should they not be able to patent bacteria that they have specially engeneered for this process??

Please keep attacks political, philosophical, ethical, scientific, or logical. Personal attacks without a sound line of logic or reasoning behind them are counterproductive and unnecessary. In other words, attack the Obama's if you want, but do it eloquently and intelligently and make sure you are attacking their politics and principals and not making personal mean and slanderous attacks that are politically immaterial.

Lady Justice is portrayed as a blind deity for a reason. The idea is that justice should address illegal actions and breaches of contract without respect to who the perpetrator of a social or contractual breech is. While certain circumstances may mitigate or increase the severity of a crime or breech of contract, social status, race, culture, or religion should not be factored in to the system, as this would go against the idea that justice is for all and all are responsible and equal under the law.

this is "communism lite" and disincentivises working at all or even doing a good job as it creats a labor enviornment where a job's qualification would be "be a warm bodie and at work on time". Competition for jobs increases the quality of a workforce, government controll of a workforce generates poor productivity and poorer products...or have you ever driven a Trabant?

At the very least any strip searches of minors must be done in the presence of a parent and with the permission of the parent and the consent of any minor capable of abstract reasoning (developmental scales says this happens usually by 10 or 12). Modesty must be preserved and any such search should have to be culturally and religiously appropriate (ex. No cavity searches of virgins-period-even if strong suspicions)

Two ideas to help solve much of the debate.
1) Invest into research on male birth control pills and shots and make them cheap and widely available (men WILL use birth control provided it doesn't diminish enjoyment like condoms)

2) Require a father to be written on every birth certificate, thus ensuring establishment of parentage and child support

This will put more pregnancy responsibility on men who will use male birth control (incidentally their is no controversy whether a "Personhood" amendment would interfere with this form of birth control). With a 95% effective female birth control (community failure rates for OCP's are 5% per year) AND a 95% effective male birth control, failure rates would drop to .25% per year, making arguments for elective abortions spurious. Purely elective abortions could then be illegal, with less controversial medical indications still leading to abortions when necessary. The issue would disappear if men also had birth control and a strong reason to use it.

I hope this is sarcasm-if so then bravo and I agree.

By and large, Muslims are Godly people of morals and faith. True their ethics, especially feminist and individualist ethics, vary far from most Americans, but their faith is not far from Christianity or Judaism except for a few key pieces of doctrine, and frankly their morals are more in line with conservative Christian values than most US liberals. Conservative Christians could have much to gain on the morality front of marriage, abortion, abstinence education etc, by cooperating rather than alienating moderate Muslims.

Luvwith Quote:” It’s funny how the wing nuts are all about using the constitution as a weapon when it suits them and ignoring it when it protects people from torture, indefinite detention and warrantless surveillance."

You have a point on the surveillance. However non-citizens and foreign combatants are not afforded full constitutional protections, but only the protections we agreed to by Geneva convention.

Luvwith, this is a Democracy and the squeeky wheel gets the grease. If you don't like it, perhaps you could go to a country more in tune with your opinion of free speech, laws and legal protections, and the Democratic process. May I suggest 1930's Germany or Italy??

Mr. Art Lee. 400,000 people have signed petitions asking for the release of Obama's records. I think that this is more than a few dozen. Also for this number of conservatives to take time to sign anything represents a shift in conservative (and possibly moderate as well) opinion.

Mercenary and militia constitutionally protected. The point is that there shouldn't be direct government involvement in all armed orginizations.

The problem is that billing is after the fact and insurance often adjusts it. Also different companies may have different contract and different thing they will and won’t pay for and different amounts they will pay. Also if you pay out of pocket there is an entirely different price. The idea has some merit however as a few studies have shown that hospital inpatients have a shorter stay if they see a list of their daily meds, tests, and services with the cost to the hospital (which doesn't change) printed on it. I imagine that terminal patients would be more likely to sign DNR's and try hospice with this strategy as well.

Original constitution.....
No-the amendment process if imperfect is good if followed. What we need is upholding of the current constitution. Use of the original constitution should only be used in cases where the current amended constitution is unclear (as it was in RVW). Using the originals the 14th amendment made the constitution unclear on the subject, viable fetuses would have been ruled people and thus protected (as they would be using other court precedent allowing the unborn to inherit and be taxed)

and yes, I know that Pro-life comment probably placed me on your watch list Obama, despite the fact that fringe Pro-lifers have only been responsible for 5 American deaths since RVW. Oh well, at least we are not putting some poor inner-city black Muslem convert on the watch list, now THAT would be uncalled for!

And extend them to all viable life-no more abortion without serious threat to the mother or serious fetal anomaly incompatible with life-& in such cases use due process of law with a fast track through a Hospital ethics board which would call several randomly selected community members to reach a decision and present it to a judge who could approve or demand more information.

Legalize pot and other controlled substances and put a 300% tax on it. Use this tax money to fund a children's health initiative, also collect data on who is using health-harmful and Doctor discouraged substances and bar them from public medicine other than quit/addiction programs until they are clean. The tax money generated and saved (by not paying for cocaine induced kidney failure, hear problems, etc.) can also be used to create the substance registry and increase quit programs for addicts as well as drug education programs.

This would accomplish 5 things.

1) Allow people to make decisions regarding substances and their own bodies.

2) Ensure that these decisions, if poor, do not cost the taxpayer. Any tax money spent will be used to encourage healthier decisions rather than mop up after peoples poor choices.

3) Increase the availability of quit programs and also make those who refuse to quit safer by ensuring untainted drug product.

4) Break the power of Drug Cartels in South America as well as make our border safer and stop much drug related border violence.

5) Make pot less attractive to kids with drug tax subsidized public service-don't do drugs programs and education. Also as drugs will be legal, these programs may have higher success, because rather than being glamorous rebel’s drug users will come to be regarded as burnouts.

Hmmmm....As a Scientific mind, I'm not sure where to fall on this one. There is no randomized control trial for Global Warming, it is just a well thought out theory. Some environmental evidence my show correlations with carbon use and warming, but in a non-randomized experiment there are endless unknown confounders, meaning that from a strict scientific point of view we can never really prove or disprove global warming, just add corroborating or detracting evidence to debate over the theory. Is it a good enough theory that we should be concerned? Yes, it seems scientifically sound and plausible. Should we change our entire economy and way of life because of it??-probably not, as we don't know if this will have the desired effect.

LiberLiberals can't be transparent. If they were they would lose because they support

1) One World multi-nationalism while most Americans want a Sovereign state with limits on immigration, NATO, UN, non-naturalized presidents, and other undue foreign influence.

2) Redistribution of wealth (discussed as "entitlements and public services"), which, when it comes sown to it no one wants to pay for out of their own check (they will only vote liberal if they think it is coming out of someone else's paycheck)

3) Limitations on free speech and thought. Face facts, shouting "Free Love" "we're here and Queer" or "Women aren’t baby containers!" isn't exactly counter cultural anymore. These expressions of Liberal free thought are lauded and applauded. Only "religious" and "old fashioned" thought are squelched. Problem is, what happens when the "Political Correctness" referees decide that saying something you wish to voice is now "old fashioned and mean spirited?"-or if they use political pressure to silence you as they are now with the "birthers"? Just because something is “mean spirited” does not mean that it is excluded from public discussion, the media, or even vociferous and dirty smear campaigns—Free speech is a right Americans on both sides of the isle hold dear.

4) No limits abortions. While the numbers are in favor of allowing it to save the mother, abortion on demand for non-medical reasons is not popular. If the Dems didn't do a song and dance and talk about the health of the mother (a rare occurrence compared to the 94% of abortions that are purely elective) they could lose on this issue alone.

So whether a citizen or not Obama is just pulling the usual “smile and use your smart reasonable voice to calm American back into complacency” play he and other Democrats (and many Republicans as well) often use when confronted with controversy.

Well said!! We need proof of US birth Mr. Obama!! (you won't hear me calling him "President Obama until I am assured he is eligible for the title!)

well, by my definition Communism is tyranny and socialism a grave abuse of power. Making either Democracy or Republic the best.

Hmmmm....Kinda like sending the "Bush cheated" Democrats to their rooms in 2000?? Personally I thought that if they had a case and proof that they should bring it to light. We are a nation of laws, and we should ensure all are met when electing a person president. Asking for a Florida recount was not unreasonable, neither is asking for a birth certificate.

Funny....If my papers aren’t in order the IRS could audit me and bends me over the barrel after pick pocketing me--and there are no conflicting stories about whether I paid my taxes in Hawaii or Kenya! Why should the President get a pass on his paperwork and documentation??

So much for transparent government! Reminds me more of the end of Animal Farm. "The president is a down to earth normal guy just like you......but better. He doesn't need to waste his time on little details like whether or not he is TECHNICALLY eligible for the presidency. 51% of people voted for him proving he is, in fact, the Chosen One!"
clifton.hancock 9 months ago
Not petty but a significant problem when your president is unwilling to prove his birth as a naturalized citizen. To have him be otherwise is a threat to the US as an autonomous nation and sets a dangerous precedent.....Unless you are a One-Worlder in which case you might actually think it appropriate for any Earth born human to lead any nation. Do I think Obama is a citizen…yes most likely. Do I think it is bad and makes his administration look bad to not release his official records?? Very much so. Do I think it is bad that the case had to be appealed because an individual or group of individuals can’t sue for information insuring the suitability of a candidate for office?-yes this is bad and trust me, Democrats and Republicans alike will be hollering about this should it open the door for unfit politicians to find their way into office elsewhere. For example should Supreme Court nominees have to prove they passed the Bar? According to this dangerous court precedent, maybe not. How about a sheriff being forced to prove he has no felony charges and thus is able to legally carry firearms??-sound unreasonable?? Would you like your postmaster to have a high school diploma? Or a driver’s license? How about the surgeon general actually having an MD?? Fact is that some jobs come with certain pre-qualifications and it’s not unreasonable to demand employees prove they have these, especially when the employee is the man chosen for the job of President of the United States.
