  Improving the Open Government Dialogue Page

  This suggestion is for your system administrators and programmers (I am a programmer myself): PLEASE implement an auto-rejection script that uses a regular expression to detect the words "birth certificate", "long form", "illigitimate", and "Obama", and automatically deletes all matching submissions before they get posted. Design this script so you can add new terms as required, since the people making all this noise ...more »

  This suggestion is for your system administrators and programmers (I am a programmer myself):

  PLEASE implement an auto-rejection script that uses a regular expression to detect the words "birth certificate", "long form", "illigitimate", and "Obama", and automatically deletes all matching submissions before they get posted.

  Design this script so you can add new terms as required, since the people making all this noise will undoubtably try to work around anything you do.

  Please don't worry about this being counter to your goal, which is open government. This approach SUPPORTS the goal of open government by significantly reducing the signal to noise ratio of this site.

  Bottom line: Kill all the posts by crazy people, and let those of us who have constructive ideas to post be heard. PLEASE.

  How about a central "taxes analysis" web page?

  Many of the people where I live complain bitterly about paying taxes. They don't seem to understand that their taxes pay for the services and infrastructure they use; they think their taxes are simply being taken away from them, with nothing being given in return. How about creating a web site that lets you enter your income level and state of residency, and which then breaks down your annual taxes, showing you how ...more »

  Many of the people where I live complain bitterly about paying taxes. They don't seem to understand that their taxes pay for the services and infrastructure they use; they think their taxes are simply being taken away from them, with nothing being given in return.

  How about creating a web site that lets you enter your income level and state of residency, and which then breaks down your annual taxes, showing you how they're actually being used? For example, you could put up a pie chart saying which percentages of a person's taxes went to pay for the military, social security, social programs, highway maintenance, scientific research, etc...

  Given that all state tax rates and federal rates are public information, it shouldn't be too hard to set something like this up. Hmm...

  Require Corporate Tax ID to Be Recorded For Political Contributions

  This is a simple idea. When a corporation or other lobbying group contributes money to a candidate or campaign, force the recipient to log the corporation's tax ID number. Then, when the recipient files his campaign finance disclosure forms to the state and/or local government, force him to report the tax ID number of his corporate contributors.   This is a simple idea. When a corporation or other lobbying group contributes money to a candidate or campaign, force the recipient to log the corporation's tax ID number. Then, when the recipient files his campaign finance disclosure forms to the state and/or local government, force him to report the tax ID number of his corporate contributors. Make these federal rules, and pressure state governments to apply them as well.

  When the contribution lists are made available to the public, remove the tax IDs, but group all payments from a single tax ID together, so the public can see how much money the organization is spending, and on whom.
