I've read a bit about how the country needs to return to the ideals of the founding fathers, how we need to reexamine the constitution and re-align our country with it again.
I wonder, is there something better? Is there something we can figure out that applies to OUR place in time? The founding fathers knew nothing about the internet, the auto industry (even the train industry!), health care, drug policy; hell, they didn't even know if what they were setting up would work. They had international relations with monarchies in France and England and Spain. There was no Pentagon, no capital building, no "lower 48" or galapagos territories. They didn't understand the environmental impact of human activity. The population of the world was probably less than 1 billion. They were of a completely different mindset than us.
I hear a lot about 'keeping the illegals out'. This same sentiment has a place in all of American history. Keep the drunken irish out. Keep the Germans out. Keep the Slovacs out. Keep the italians out. Yet here we are today, listing off all the different origins of our ancestors. Me? Oh well I'm part Russian, part Scottish, if we're only going back say a thousand years. I'm probably 30th generation Roman and 70th generation Avetic Aryan, and something like 100 millionth generation Panthalassan.
America is on the brink of failure. Our currency, as a fiat currency, is threatening collapse as we spend deeper and deeper into oblivion. Our supposed leaders were bought with campaign contributions from companies who desperately want the biggest share of our disposable income, and the meager sum we have left after theyre done is not enough to buy our politicians back. Our taxes support unjust wars (secret and public) and defense contractors who sell the last generations' weapons to foreign nations as soon as we give them this generation's new contract. We get none of their profits for our investment.
Its time for a refresh. We need a truly new objective standpoint to get ourselves out of the mess that we're in now. We need to look at drug policy as though we've never heard of it before, and take into account all of the positives and negatives of each drug before we enforce laws about them. Marijuana is hemp, one of the most resilient crops in any locale or weather, and its folly to try and enforce laws against it when it requires almost no processing and has fewer negative side effects than tobacco. When looking at it objectively, in fact, it is stupid. We need to look at our foreign policy in a new way. Clearly, as 100,000 Iranians march the streets of Tehran against their current president, we can't maintain a malevolent disposition towards them, because they are not one with their leader.
What we need is a better understanding of the lessons taught through TIME. Follow the collapse of any empire and you'll see parallels today in America. Have the courage to examine our stupid decisions and acknowledge that they were stupid. Have the courage to face a new age of humanity with open arms and open minds. Forever and always the only time that ever existed was RIGHT NOW. THIS is our chance to change the world, RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW. I have no idea how, but dammit we gotta do it.
