Seriously? If Americans are not willing to pay $1 for $1 of healthcare, why would they pay $1.60 for $1 of healthcare?

Wait, it's free if the government does it... The last time I looked the government doesn't have a job and produces nothing of economic value/products. The only money it has to spend on healthcare is stolen (I mean taxed) from hardworking Americans.

Let the rich and businesses pay for it... Again, the rich and businesses really don't pay taxes. If I sell milk for $3 per gallon and you raise my taxes and my costs go us 30 cents a gallon, I will raise my milk price to $3.50 (I have to pay more for bookkeeping to track the new taxes). Who ends up paying for healthcare? Besides, now the people who bring you highway workers are bringing you healthcare. The costs will skyrocket and productivity will fall.

Europe has a breast and prostate cancer survivability rate of around 60%. The rate in the United Sates (this includes the poor and uninsured) is over 90%. Not the direction I want to go. Pay more, get less.

Yes, workers are unrepresented in government. At this time the executive and legislative branches are controlled by the elite party. Read their resumes and you quickly discover that they are not workers and most have never been. They've not had real jobs and there are far too many that have failed to pay taxes.

America is not about equalizing results, it is about providing equal access to opportunity. We should never expect to get the same stuff that others get if we've not invested ourselves in enterprise, education, and charity.

About the progressive tax. C'mon - the rich do not pay taxes (I mean besides Dashcle and Geitner). If you make the guy that sells tires pay more in taxes and he figures out that the taxes are an additional $7.50 per tire, he (and his competitors) will raise the cost of tire $10 each (have to administer the tax paperwork and pay for more bookkeeping). Who just got stuck paying more in taxes?

Let's remove the politics from the issue and use intellectual honesty.

The capital gains tax prevents the movement of capital to best serve society's needs. Many of the most progressive economies do not subscribe to a capital gains tax. The tax tends to lock investors into "old" thinking and shy away from "new" ideas and ventures. Having a capital gains tax is preventing economic growth and economic renovation. Not the best idea.

Just a thought, but businesses and rich people do not pay taxes. This is especially true of Geitner and Daschle.

However, we need to look (as the CIA does) at the wealthy as a national resource. We measure the future success of other nations by the number and percentage of millionaires they have. An economy will fail without them.

If you mandate that a company pays higher taxes, the cost of their products will go up accordingly. If I sell coffee and my taxes per pound go up 40 cents I will increase the cost of my coffee about 50 cents (the tax will need to be administered) as will every other importer. You not only increased taxes upon the poor, the increase was compounded.

Just doesn't seem like the best option.

Many countries do not have patent processes like ours. In Japan, they traditionally did not secure patents for their products. However, they did engage in other means of ensuring that corporate secrets were kept.

Nancy Pelosi's constituents should handle that in 2010. If they fail to, the member of the House should.

Cite your reference. You are making and empirical data statement and we should have access to the source reference. It may be more fair to say that there appears to be substantial portions of American construction done in this manner.

You will never reach either goal. Your posts are being deleted. A count cannot be maintained. Votes will not count either as your posts are being deleted. This is not about transparency, it is about gathering information that the Office of the President wants to hear. Post something about releasing information about hugging trees and it will be allowed to soar to the top.

I think they may have a point. The birth certificate suggestions are being deleted. What was dominating the top ten a couple of days ago has been completely deleted, not combined or voted down. It seems they may have some (overheated at times) points that are directly related to the merits of the site (and many that are not). This is even more so than the Stop the Fed campaigns. Those Fed comments have nothing to do with FOIA, the 1961 certificate may.

We are leaving posts unrelated to open government on the site and deleting the top transparency issue of the 1961 birth certificate of the sitting President? What does legalizing pot have to do with open government? We are being misled.

The reality is this:
1. The government doesn't have a job. It makes money by taking it from you. Therefore, GM, socialized medicine, prescription drugs for grandma, AIG, public education, etc. is paid for by you and me.
2. Tax the rich or businesses doesn't work. Businesses (and the wealthy) really do not pay taxes. If I sell milk for $3 per gallon and you increase my taxes by 50 cents per gallon, I will now charge $3.60 (yes, I have to administer the tax). You and I pay all taxes.
3. Consumption taxes are very heavy already and we still need income tax due to our societal spending habits. We are deficit addicts.
4. Quit thinking that government paid = free. If you were unwilling to pay $1 for $1 worth of healthcare, are you ready to pay $1.60? See #1 and #2 above.
