Hiring & Recruitment

I'm from the government and I really am here to help!

I work for a local workforce board and I'm attempting to assist people who have been laid off in finding new employment. In our local area (Dallas/Fort Worth), we have regional offices for numerous federal agencies. It should be a snap to get a qualified applicant's resume in front of a hiring entity with one of those agencies but it is a real nightmare instead. Technology has made it simple to learn about a vacancy and ...more »

Wanted: Fresh Thinking and New Ideas

If government is really wanting to implement innovative ideas the first step would be to look at hiring and recruitment (as well as training and development practices). In my home state for example, a person advances in government based a lot on who they know and some of what they know. This has become a problem because people who worked in government 20+ years and have retired are being re-hired and implementing the ...more »

What changes in training or hiring of personnel would enhance innovation?

o Give us honest tax law abiding citizens we can trust.

o Do not reward failure with bailouts

o Allow the free market to operate. Put an end to the extortionists, aka unions.

o Require US citizen proof, deport illegal aliens.

o Americans who need it will work for it.

o Entitlement programs with expirations will encourage citizens to become responsible.

Long Form Birth Certificate

Obama should release his long form birth certificate, his school records, and passport information, so that voters can know if he is a natural born citizen and eligible for the office he holds. If he was born in Kenya as his grandmother says as an eye witness, then he would be ineligible for the presidency, because he would not be a natural born citizen. Also if he traveled to Indonesia and Pakistan like he said, then ...more »

Tax Incentive That Helps Everyone

Create a tax incentive for businesses that show profits at the end of the year. They could designate a percentage of their end of year profits to be used over the next 1 - 2 years for new hires only (increasing their overall staff). This would create a huge incentive to create new jobs and expand their business vs throwing this money away in taxes to the government. More people would be employed, more people would ...more »

Establish A Transparency Officer at Each Agency

Each agency should establish a senior officer in charge of dissemination/transparency, tasked to balance information and dissemination regimes, with a particular emphasis on transparency. This would be a new agency position, possibly within the office of the agency’s Chief Information Officer. Additionally, as new CIOs are appointed, they should be required to have at least as much expertise in information policy areas ...more »

Create Jobs in the Private Sector Not Government Jobs

Any Jobs created in the public sector destroys jobs in the private sector. Governments don't create real jobs. Government salaries are payed for with taxes, borrowing or printing which puts a burden on taxpayers, employers, value of the dollar and the overall economy. Also Government spending reduces more jobs in the private sector than it can create in the government sector. Congress need to take some economic classes ...more »

Really want innovation? Hire Outside of the Educational/Institutional Echo Chamber.

Find intelligent citizen outsiders - and hire them! Don't rely so single-mindedly on bestowed degrees and recommendations from the "Educational/Institutional Echo Chamber" - the current system of colleges, universities and big businesses which serve to reinforce entrenched ideas. Hiring policies placing a premium on top Ivy League schools like Harvard and Princeton is practically incestuous and pretty much guarantees ...more »

Dispute Resolution Expertise

The Directive should recognize and build on the rich and long experience with a large variety of public engagement and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) programs in the federal sector. In particular, the Directive should include within its senior management someone with a dispute resolution background so that a dispute resolution perspective can be included within the Directive’s discussions
