Reduce the Role of Vested Interests in Advising Government

Federal Advisory Committees should be regulated in such a manner that vested interests are restricted to a minority voice. FACs should be composed of educated citizens that are not in conflict of interest and in no position to make scads of money should their advice be taken. Currently these groups are stacked overwhelmingly (if not exclusively) with those whose interests run counter to the public good - and toward their ...more »

Appointment of Mr. Kareen Shora to Advisory Council to Homeland Security

I understand Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has swore in to her official advisory council the head of an Arab American organization whose officials have labeled deadly anti-U.S jihadists as “heroes” and opposed referring to Hamas as a terrorist organization. This individual Mr Kareem Shora who is or was the Executive Director of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC). It is well known the ...more »

Require ACORN to make public their financial records

We, the People, who are funding the government money given to them, should demand accountability of the funds. They owe the Citizens an honest view of the other groups they are handing the money to.

The new "Compensation Czar"

News item: "The Obama administration plans to appoint a "Special Master for Compensation" to ensure that companies receiving federal bailout funds are abiding by executive-pay guidelines, according to people familiar with the matter."

I hope they start with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the Congressional staff members. They have no business messing around in the provate economy.

National Authority for defining Standards for All Energy Certifications...

We as a nation, have the cart before the horse as we delve into sustainable forms of Green Energy and the use of other energy sources. The problems come when these systems fail, cause harm, or are not effective, but sold anyway. I believe the US government should establish a system of Authority through the Department of Energy, setting up a system which will detail how standards are determined, how often they are reviewed, ...more »

Military Families -- both active duty and reserves and national guard troops

I am a veteran and a woman. I loved my job during active duty for over the eight years I served in the Army. I scoffed at the idea during my initial training in Fort Lee, VA., when told by a female cadre, that if I wanted to make the military a career -- never have children. I was married and we did not have children until 8 years into my supply logistics career. I reluctantly left the service when little support was ...more »

Aviation

The Airlines industries used 9/11 to declare bankruptcy and used that time to reduce or eliminate: pensions, job permanence, training requirements and wages. This is making air travel more risky. A pilot pays as much for their training as a doctor and has the responsibility for the life of all their passangers. The Government must expect aviation to pay their pilots well and put into place more reasonable working conditions. ...more »

Reopen the Office of Technology Assessment

The Office of Technology Assessment was a respected nonpartisan office whose job was supplying information to congress about upcoming technological possibilities including both opportunities and risk. It was defunded in the 1980's. Arguably the role a new and enhanced OTA would serve is more important than ever. A new OTA would help serve as an important mediator of information to congress and to the publc and improve ...more »
