THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD DETERMINE IF AMERICA IS BETTER OFF BECAUSE OF IMMIGRANTS

Why Is This Idea Important?: It should put the immigration question into a proper perspective.

Is America better off by allowing all of these immigrants into our country?

No doubt THEY are better off. But that is no reason to allow them to come here.

Shouldn't we do what is in OUR interests?

  1. i can tell you now California is way better off!

We have a resurgence of polio, plague/ leprosy, chagas. and a whole host of other lovely sicknesses. not to mention rampant Gang violence and trash and pollution.

uninsured/unlicensed drivers and a whole host of other cool things. it is like the smash up derby!!!

not to mention the way they use the emergency rooms when they get the sniffles!

when i am bleeding out and have to wait for some 3rd world chola to have her kid diagnosed with a cold it Great!

and to top it off the California public Education system is Second to none..... no wait actually it was #1 not we are 50th behind Mississippi.

i dont even mind the fact i pay 15k a year to send my kid to private school and still have to subsidize all of the illegals.!

it is just so worth it!

  2. Our best interest is to secure our borders and throw out the illigals. Why doesn't our congress act to do this?

  3. Actually, the US government unofficially encouraged illegal immigration for much of the 20th century. It allowed a serious increase in construction and agricultural production.

So, if you ask the government, they'd probably say it's good.

  4. Yes and no, We are the "Melting Pot" after all. That's a model we should continue. We do want our jobs to remain our jobs at the same time and we want to be able to hire the most qualified employees. There is no easy answer.

  5. the government panders to industry and their lobby even if it means we get exposed to crime and disease an terrorism.

the government insulates itself from the effects so why should they care?

  6. Studies indicate that immigrants do benefit America. I know in my area we would face disaster if we deported all undocumented immigrants. There are many jobs that most native-born Americans don't want that they willingly do, and do well. There are areas of the economy that are so dependent upon them that their sudden departure would cause major problems.

At one time, anyone who showed up on U.S. shores with ID and someone to vouch for them was allowed to stay. I would suggest a slight modification. Check for criminal records and, if none, give them a 1-year permit. If they were gainfully employed and caused no problems, they would then get another 2 years, to be renewable for another 2. If they were still contributing only positively, they would then be given permanent resident status.

The flow of immigration is determined primarily by economic and social conditions, not by laws. It has slowed due to the recession. Trying to close our borders and go after all undocumented is unmanageable. With my proposal, law enforcement could concentrate on the small proportion of immigrants who are problems to our society.
