Prison Population

Why Is This Idea Important?: We need a total reform of the US Prison System.

How come there is more blacks in prison than whites? Isn't there a better way to deal with people with drug problems than to lock them up?

  1. Are you saying blacks have a bigger problem with drugs than other races? Then again, our Czar Obama is a coke head and a stoner too.

I don't know what race has the worst drug problem, but why do blacks suffer the most injustice in our court system?

  3. We have a black president and we have black inmates...we have had white presidents and white inmates...you get you deserve. If you put yourself in a position to be guilty or assumed guilty...well...you are hanging out in the wrong places.

  4. They commit more crimes. It's not just drugs. A lot of it's violence. People have got to raise their kids to get an education and stay out of trouble. It works for all kinds of people.

The point Im trying to make is that there is unequal justice in america. By the way, we are in desperate need of the whole prison system.

  7. I worked as a supervisor in the largest Texas prison for 12 years...the Coffield unit. I can tell you first hand that these idiots are where they belong...I have read so many travel cards on these fools and have found a common pattern...they are for the most part career criminals...and not very good at it either.

  8. Ask yourself this...what race celebrates being a "gangster" or a "killa" in music and as a way of life in general. The glorify the ide of being bad intil the justice system confirms it.

Who is that not only keeps a "gat" on them, but feels the need to use it as a show of might and strength.

Who draws unwanted attention to themselves by wearing pants that won't stay up over their asses...like they're trying to sell it. They don't know to blend in and not draw "heat" down on themselves.

  9. Perhap instead of asking why people are treated unfairly by the judicial system, you should be asking why does our government, especially Democrats, want to hold them back in poverty, give them a poor education in opublic schools, and drum into their heads that they'll never amount to anything without affirmitive action. That's where the problem starts, not with the judicial system.

  10. Your conclusions are faulty, what does blacks in prison, whites in prison have to do with people with drug problems or people who are in prison on drug charges? NOTHING!!

  11. You do know that if there were more whites in prison than blacks that the blacks would no longer run the prison system(in numbers only because we all kno the mexicans are the real power in prison). This way they get the chance to say the white man is the minority. Could you imagine what would happen to backs in prison if whites ran it...that would get ugly for the ACLU and the NAACP.

  12. I work in the criminal justice system. The reason there are more blacks in prison is because they are committing more crimes.

  13. I'm not under the impression that blacks and whites are treated unfairly in prison. The black culture seems awfully fond of extremely violent movies and rap music, plus there's glorification of gangs. All of that is extremely destructive. Children need to be raised with moral guidance if they're to be responsible adults. People need to take responsibility for how they raise their children. A crucial portion is setting a good example.

Kids need limits and guidance. When kids are raised to be hoodlums as teenagers who's surprised when they turn into thugs as grown ups?

Thugs and hoodlums belong in jail. If you want to keep blacks out of jail, concentrate on responsibility and let the entertainment industry know we need good examples NOT bad ones.

Religion is a huge positive influence. Well... maybe not that Trinity Church in Chicago.

  14. I agree. I think we did it intirely wrong in the way the government "freed" the slaves. Remember(abtractly) that slave were freely traded/sold. "Families" of the slves were usually non-exsistant. Fathers, mothers, and children very frequently sold separately with little regard for any real domestic union in family form. Many "owner" took unfair liberties as well. Then when the Slaves were finally set free, there was no human or domestic family training taught. And there being little parental history there was little to morally guide those freed. Not everyone has yet recovered from those long and terrible years. Personally, I feel ite is wrong now to emprison most blacks for their crimes when many yete even today have fully been given a chance to learn how really handly moral issues. I believe they should be sent to school and personality training instead. I was never there, so I don't really know, but I have had many friends that happen to be black and they like anyone else learn just as quickly as I do, and I think, if they were given some personal educational training along domestic lines. focusing on personal behaviors. Something isn't right, and I don't think it can be summed up as all prejudice of police and courts.

  18. There are plenty of successful blacks. The main difference is that, for most of them, their parents valued education and achievement, rather than telling them "don't act white".

Much of that is the fault of the welfare culture. You see too many from multigenerational welfare families of all races with the same attitudes.

  19. I agree that there are very successful blacks. As far as anythast might have been daught "don't act white" if that is the case, shouldn't they be given the opportuniy to perhaps look at it a better way. You are refering to a youngster that was taugh in a wrong way.

and there must be(I suggest) lacking in the parents teachings simply because of the lack of constructive family history. I don't know, but it wouldn't hurt to look, in hope of finding and finally solving the rather large problem.

  21. But if they didn't have a solid family background where he or she could properly learn, to me at leaast, appears to be a community and government fault, especially when it just might have been the community and governments fault that caused the lack of family background to begin from way back when when the instead of families they were slaves?

Think the problem might need some possible refocusing.

  22. The trashing of Black families is much more recent than slavery. It has grown worse with the entitlement culture.

It is past time to stop making excuses, and stop rewarding dysfunctional behavior. There is no end in sight on the current path, things will just continue to get worse.

  23. I don't disagree, and it may have even intensified the problem.

But until they have a real opportunity to finally have a stablized family environment that can function as a structured family with proper values instilled the problems will continue and the children will continue to flounder. I simply think that many blacks of today have not yet had a real chance for successful stable living. Giving and giving handouts or wellfare doesn't improve anything, it only feeds the problem unless it is connected with a gage for learning domistic family rules over years of development. I'm no expert, just wandering in the concern.

Something should be engeneered to stop the repeated chains of failure. Punishing and repunishing without a stable persistant guide clearly doesn't work. I bet just one generation of domestic stability would stop the big and outstanding problem.

  25. Read Clarence Thomas's autobiography "My Grandfather's Son". It's also available on a book on CD. I had opposed his nomination because I was too liberal and believed Anita Hill. It left me with a huge respect for him and his Grandfather.

Kids need what his Grandfather did for Clarence Thomas. Somebody that cares about them too much to let them go down the wrong path.

    It's in the library.

  26. Justice Thomas realizes that we all owe our freedom to the Constitution, not to democracy. There is racial equality throughout this land because the Constitution says it must be, not because a majority would have voted for it back in the 50s and 60s.

Freedom must be based on individual responsibility, however, and you have to be accountable for your actions. When you abuse freedom, you abuse all of us, and prison is where you belong.

  27. I do agree that people must be held accountable, but again refer back to the fact of Justice Thomas - he had a real father. Many of our black folks never got that break, we somehow have to break the chain of repeating failure. It can only be effectively dealt with if we somehow insert a positive guideing parent without infringing on family rights as well. Wish I had the full answer.

  28. Perhaps the Black communities should grab this very important issue by the horns? It would bloster their own purposes. Undoubtedly they could get some backing on a constuctive plan, and they are more familiar with actual issue that be.

  29. I have seen ignorance before but the Votes on this dog and Pony show just how stupid people are .

Well Da , Is there a better way , for Christ sakes lets hope so.

The optimum solution is to treat Drug addiction as a Medical problem , not lock people up wich is a huge waist .

Poverty and pulling ones self out of Poverty is not easy , sure we examples all the time but truth be told , done by few . Hard work dose not guarantee getting out of Poverty .

Most of the Idiots Voting here have no clue , I find Religious Fanatics and I am not talking going to Church to often , the ones with a hypocritical outlook .

What would Jesus do , he would heal them , plane and simple , we Humans have been given the ability to heal , it is called Treatment Centers , now few and far apart. Unless you have MONEY .

If you have nothing to lose , selling drugs is a quik way to make a buck and blacks % wise are poorer and most likely to be in some sick ass Ghetto .

There are Plenty of Whites in Prison , usualy because they are as poor as the Blacks , look at Rush Limba , Blackmailed his Maid , had her buy 30 Thousand Oxycottens , was he sharing ? He was also Dr. Shopping and hipocritically demanding higher sentences for People doing the same damn thing but he had MONEY !

Before you answer Please think , yeah right , Blacks are genetically predisposed to eat Watermelons , Fried Chicken and Smoke Crack .

You do not treat the symptoms you treat the cause .

If not , the next generation will have the same disease . Think Rationally Please .

We can fix this issue , go sit in a Court room and watch Public Defenders , Court Appointed Lawyers here in Texas . they basicaly work for the DA to cut threw and cop a plea , Innocent or Guilty it does not matter . With money and a good Lawyer , your not going to jail for Drugs unless your caught with a large quantity , crack is cheep , fast money and when your broke , attractive .

Go sleep on the streets for a week then think again and remeber the entire time your sleeping on the street , you know it is for a short time . Great experience .

    Show some compassion .

Very good comments. I lived in Maryland for six years and saw both sides of the race coin: very wealthy, respectable, and successful blacks and those who were always in and out of prison. It does seem to be more of a culture and economic problem than a purely racial one. I do agree, though, that the glorification of gangsters and violence through certain kinds of music is a real problem...you even see it in films, when they want you to get edgy, what racial group's music do they play? I am not saying all blacks are like that, of course...like I said, I lived among some very successful and wonderful black folks while I was in Maryland.

  31. If all people who are in prison for non-repeat small drug sales or possesions were released, we'd have a higher unemployment rate for sure, but we'd have the beginning of a fair look at crime. Beer isn't a crime, but look at all the folks who go to work everyday with this evil substance lurking in their coolers back home (or even in their truck in the parking lot).

  33. Your comment has valitity, but doesn't really address the whole issue. The federal government can't change the minds of the police department,or change the fact that the appointed lawyers are less competent over all. They can't change the cultures of people who choose to do wrong or bad things.

What the government can do is investigate the failures in the system, set a new idea or direction in place, and establish rules to kick foreward the change.

My suggestion to you would be to with this in mind rewrite your post maybe to have all judicial records become digital so independant investigative groups can more easily evaluate and see the results of our current systems. Or Have the prision and rehab system be evaluated to see what works what doesn't work so they can put more money into the systems that work and cut funding for the ones that don't work.

These are things the government can and should do. Hoping to change the cultures and predjudices of the people can only happen in the hearts and minds of the individuals. There is no miricle cure for that.

Seriously rework your post...You'll get a beter response.

  34. The answer is simply this : "violence".

Note that there are also more Black on Black murders also - not a statistic that 'white' Cops can manipulate.

My (White, Red-head) daughter is engaged to a guy from Kenya - who has been receiving threats from another Kenyan-American who says that since she once dated him that they 'better not' marry, or else...

Now I know that this is not a statistical sample, but my other 3 daughters didn't have and 'death threats' from ex-boyfriends... some cultural is going on here.

Something that would help A LOT would be for Black Men to Marry before knocking up their women - and stay married to raise the son(s) so that (they)he's not raised by Gangs... Check those stats also.
