Honesty in Expense Reporting

Why Is This Idea Important?: The Hawthorne Principle states that anything that is measured and reported get better. In the disinfectant of sunshine government costs will go down.

All elected and appointed government employees should be required to report both the actual costs of all expenses such as use of government aircraft, vehicles, facilities, and security, as measured by the CBO, as well as the commercial equivalent. For example the actual cost of a coast to coast 757 flight certainly exceeds the cost of a single round trip ticket on a domestic commercial flight. This cost should be made known to the taxpayers who are all belt tightening while paying for lavish governmental perquisites.

  1. Google CAFR1 to see the enormous amount of surplus money governments have.
