Ok, I must admit that I am a redneck; and like most other rednecks, have always owned American cars. Currently my husband and I have a Dodge RAM and a Jeep Cherokee (Chrysler products). Both are 8+ years old and I need to buy new vehicles....ones about to go. While thinking about my next vehicle purchases and the current state of GM and Chrysler these days (and sorry folks I don't like Ford products), I had this great idea about the "Redneck Automobile Awareness Program". I'll recap:
- Rednecks should buy vehicles from car makers that employ the people in their state; car makers in the redneck states include manufacturers such as Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Hyundai. Advantage: Buying a vehicle from a car maker in your state helps your states economy and that of course is good for the redneck too.
- Rednecks should buy vehicles from Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Hyundai which make some very fuel efficient vehicles. Advantage: This is good for the environment and can save you some gas $$$ too.

I'd definately go with Toyota, Honda, Nissan, or Hyundai. I'll never buy from GM or Chrysler and I don't like Fords either. It's really a bummer because I love Jeeps. If I could afford it, I'd buy a Prius to save on gas.
I do understand your point(you must live in Texas too by the way) but It still sends our money back into the foreign market. Dodge, Ford and GM should of had our government creating incentives(killing the UAW) to keep them being built here instead of Mexico and Canada.
Our cars and trucks are every bit as good as any others. The government wants us to get new vehicles every 6 years anyway so that throws durability our the window...and besides Dodge has a lifetime plan that no one could match too.
Nope not in Texas, there are other redneck states too. Texas doesn't have the corner on rednecks.... think Nascar.
Ya know, I love my Dodge RAM and I'd love to have another ... went to my local dealer Tuesday to get one but they told me that since they were being forced to close their dealership that I had to pay cash that day or they couldn't offer me a warranty on a new one. What a shame...I'm seriously bummed about buy I will not buy from Chrysler nor GM.
Our government gave a large stake of Chrysler to Fiat as you probably know. Fiat happens to be an Italian automaker. I'd rather give my money to help the folks that work here in the good ole redneck folks in the US than to the Italians.
andiwwjd:
yes that Prius would be one sweet ride ... now that would make all my redneck friends sooooo jealous. And even better, it might make me look more like a Starbuck sipping yuppie and perhaps I'll fit in better.
We have NASCAR in Texas too...lol...twice a year as a matter of fact. And we build Toyota trucks here...but I won't buy one...not even a used one.
I was a Dodge man all of my life but I am now a die hard Ford fan...until the government give them away in exchange for votes.
yeah... you may have NASCAR, but we are NASCAR :)
Ford will be next alas. The UAW and our government will destroy that company too. So, I'm afraid I really have no other choice... I'll vote with my wallet.
You think the UAW actually thought it'd be a good idea to alienate their consumer base? i.e., libs don't buy American made cars:
http://www.politicsdaily.com/2009/04/30/for-liberals-american-cars-still-a-foreign-idea/
I live in one of the most liberal states in the union, California. You have no idea what it's like to live in this liberal state when you actually have a brain.
For all you liberals reading this, global warming is a SCAM to steal more money from us. WAKE UP!
(lol, I couldn't resist)
I have cousin's in Texas but it's just too hot for me. :)
No. But I do think that they got even more money by just owning a major stake in it now.
If somebody offered that to me for my vote...I would have to take it...sell it and still run it anyway...just like they will do. They can lose on that deal.
Until the government and the Union started messing with the auto industry, I would only buy American cars. Not anymore. The government had no right to take money from hard working Americans and hand it to the auto industry. Toyota was doing fine in the same town as GM. If the competition is doing fine and your not, it only common sense to go see what they're doing that your not BEFORE you go under. It's the same with states who don't have sales tax. They're doing fine and states like mine, California, are broke. Get off you butt and go see what they're doing right! DUH; it's a no brainer! Are you listening Schwazanagger? Your time's almost up and we can't wait!
Well, one can't buy american now. You have to buy government issue.
I too buy as American as possible, alway bought GM (I have 6 gm vehicles, new ones and old hot rods) I wouldn't be seen dead in a foreign car... but now I have a new dilemma since I WOKE UP, that may keep me from every buying another car.... who really owns the company and where are those profits going? Boycott Isreal... couldn't resist.
Mopar or No Car!
Did you know Chrysler makes the most fuel-efficient minivans available?
The Lifetime Powertrain Warranty is unique in the industry. It's not a gimmick.
Did you know the powerful 5.7L HEMI V8 usually comes with MDS, a fuel-saving system that shuts of half the cylinders when they are not necessary and seamlessly turns them back on when you step on it...so smoothly you can't even tell?
Did you know the redesigned 2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10, a ten cylinder supercar, became notably more fuel efficient upon its redesign yet made 100 more horsepower than the previous generation? (it's up to 600 hp now)
Did you know Chrysler has an electric vehicle division named "GEM?"
Chrysler also has some great stuff in the pipeline...just stick with us a little longer, I know some of the recent products haven't been home runs but neither do they deserve the "American cars are crap" nonsense.
Have you seen a new Ram lately? It's pretty amazing what's been done with the latest redesign.
Amx, I really liked what you posted about Mopar as I too have have been one of their biggest fans and can quote even obscure history of theirs...like did you know that "dependability" was not a word until Dodge used it to describe how well built their trucks are. I just can't recall the year...20's or early 30's I believe...Websters can verify it. I also own a 68 fast back Barracuda that now holds a 472 stroker motor(.030 3.92 400)...been with me for better than 23 years and I love the carbon footprint it leaves
But I refuse to support any company that allowed thenselves to be handled like punks by the government the way Dodge and GM did.
Anything the government has ever had a habd in has failed. Why didn't our government give them a loan instead of trying to buy them and then give them away? Because Obama had to pay back his thugs at the UAW. I know that you remember when Lee got a loan and rebuilt Dodge with the K car line...the government didn't try to buy them out...it was a loan and it got paid back with interest and ahead of time. What changed besides that communist bastard in the white house.
I wish that Ford would run the UAW off their property for good...I am now a Ford man Until Dodge can get back to to being what I know they can be and have no government ownership at all...
