All Laws need a "Sunset" clause

Why Is This Idea Important?: Too many laws

Every law should have an expiration date of at most 30 years. Let the legislature renew the law, but I'm tired of them passing new laws for every new story and forever eroding our rights.

All we do is add laws. What about cleaning the books and removing old laws?

Let's simplify the crazy complexity of our legal system.

    Unfortunately, this type of requirement is completely pointless in a real political environment. Like so many other things, all existing laws that are eligible for expiry will simply be renewed en-banc without review.

    In short, congress will simply vote once a year to "renew all laws that are currently up for expiry, except this handful here", and it will pass with all yes votes, and that will be that. It will take them 15 minutes.

    Voting down as infeasible.

    I think that this is a good idea in general, but it can also pose to be very dangerous grounds as well. This can lead to abuse of power, and in turn negate some very good actions, such as the Supreme Court decision of Roe v. Wade, the dissemination of Jim Crowe laws, and so on and so forth.

    So, it can be a very powerful tool, but it's the hands that wield the power that decides whether the tool is used for creation or destruction.
