The Office of the Governor today expressed outrage that yet another baseless ethics complaint has been filed as part of an alarming new development in Alaska politics.

“These allegations are categorically false and ridiculous, and are an abuse of the Executive Ethics Act,” Nizich said.

“We are blessed to live in a democracy in which everyone has the right to free speech, to petition their lawmakers, to vote, to run for office and, yes, to allege misconduct by public officials,” said Bill McAllister, the governor’s communications director. “But obviously the purpose of this complaint and the previous ones is to distract the administration and the public, and to paralyze the Department of Law and the executive branch.

“There’s a core hypocrisy in nearly all of the ethics complaints brought against the governor, including this one. The ethics act clearly states that complaints, when filed, are to be confidential. Ms. Tompkins publicized her filing on several blogs, breaking the letter and the spirit of the law. While there are no penalties in the statute for this illegal behavior, Alaskans of all political persuasions should be appalled that the people who are alleging unethical behavior by the governor are repeatedly doing so unethically.”

The relevant section of the ethics act follows:

“Sec. 39.52.340. Confidentiality. (a) Except as provided in AS 39.52.335, before the initiation of formal proceedings under AS 39.52.350, the complaint and all other documents and information regarding an investigation conducted under this chapter or obtained by the attorney general during the investigation are confidential and not subject to inspection by the public. a judiciary to pass upon the justice and legality of their governmental acts and to recognize
certain inherent individual rights.
Take away any one or more of those four elements and you are drifting into autocracy. Add one or more to those four elements and you are drifting into democracy.

Difference between Democracy and Republic, in brief:

Republic

Democracy and Republic are often taken as one of the same thing, but there is a fundamental difference. Whilst in both cases the government is elected by the people, in Democracy the majority rules according to their whims, whilst in the Republic the Government rule according to law. This law is framed in the Constitution to limit the power of Government and ensuring some rights and protection to Minorities and individuals.

The difference between Republic and Righteous Republic is that in the Republic the Government rules according to the law set up by men, in the Righteous Republic the law is the Law of God. Only in the Righteous Republic it can truly be said "One nation under God" for it is governed under commandments of the only One True God and there is no pluralism of religions.
Autocracy declares the divine right of kings; its authority can not be questioned; its powers are arbitrarily or unjustly administered.
Mobocracy: 1. Political control by a mob. 2. The mass of common people as the source of political control.

Black, you are comparing apples and oranges here. You're trying to justify Obama's spending whatever money he's spending trying to hide his birth certificate AND his school records by saying, "What is Palin trying to hide because she's spending money on attorneys."

Here's the difference: Obama is spending money to hide the fact that he's not met the criteria for his position and also he's spending money because he doesn't want anyone to know what's in his school records, for whatever reason. (As an aside, this is the man who promised transparency in government....except for him.) I have my speculations on why he doesn't want his school records exposed.

Palin, on the other hand, is spending money to avoid losing lawsuits and ethics investigations by default, by not answering to allegations.

I look at the lawsuits thrown at Palin as a badge of honor on her behalf. Anyone who blows the whistle on as many politicians who were doing unethical things in Alaska is, of course, going to get this type of backlash. They are, of course, going to make sure that she pays dearly. This is their only recourse.

I was in government for 25 years. I know this is how the paybacks work. So everytime I hear of Palin getting ANOTHER lawsuit thrown at her AND it gets thrown out or the results are unfounded, I know that she really went after the big politicians and ruffled a LOT of feathers. That's the person I want handling taxpayer money. All the other politicians appear to be running on a greed mode and filling their pockets.

This is a typical leftie reverse logic statement they are so fond of using. They cannot defend their own, so they either (1) smear the opposition they fear the most (Palin and Rush for example) or turn around any valid complaint against those on the left, as if it instead somehow applies to the accuser. It is the kind of logic we used on the elementary school playground, and it just tires me to see it again and again. I worded the post so that it sounds exactly like the repetitive idiot accusation that OBAMA must be hiding something because he pays his lawyers hundreds of thousands of dollars. Right wingers accept Obama's guilt-by-lawyer's-fees offense. But the same principle isn't true of Sarah Palin.

Don't distract that fact, from the previous statement regarding Obama's overall costs for attorneys. They all spend money on attorneys. Bush and all of them. But nobody I can recall has spent money on attorneys sealing personal information that is not only required to even be considered for POTUS position, but is deemed public knowledge once such office is attained.

Well to answer your post regarding the difference, between Palin and Obama is simple. Palin has actually been investigated
by the legal system for each and every complaint, and found innocent. But found guilty by the media and all those idiots who believe everything the MSM dishes out. Obama's birth certificate issue, despite being a big thing for the lefties back during the election with John McCain, got big press by the MSM. But now that the shoe is on the other foot, after those responsible to ensure laws were followed fell in love with their messiah, the MSM is completely reluctant to give any press to the issue, despite that it is 10 times bigger issue now that the office is filled, likely by a foreigner. They cannot even get billboard coverage by the big companies, CBS and the others despite our "freedom of expression" and "free press". States' attorneys general and federal judges are either looking out for themselves or looking for federal posts, and overlooking these complaints, despite their obvious merit. The supreme court has one suit now that may take hold, it awaits response from the defense, under time extension due a few weeks from now. Likely they will extend and extend till 8 years is up.

Remind me again how free we are.

Fine. No law said they had to. This president chooses not to release his records. Fine. No law says he has to.

Gas lines started under Gerald Ford. There was no rationing under Carter. I think there was an odd/even system that wasn't enforced so it was pretty much voluntary. Inflation was high, as it was before Carter took office, but it never reached the definition of hyperinflation.
