Stop all prescription drug advertising and save all that money. Furthermore, we would no longer be subjected to offensive and disturbing reminders of our physical fears. An additional side benefit would be not having to watch candle lit intimate scenes implying private chemical induced virility.

I just cancelled my TV and got rid of all the rubbish.
An additional side benefit would be not having to watch candle lit intimate scenes implying private chemical induced virility.
Excellent.
Though I agree with you that these ads are unnecessary, there's not much the government can do. These ads are posted by private corporations. If the government starts limiting advertising on these, we've just taken a step closer to fascism.
It was a specific law that unleashed these stupid adds. It was a concerted effort by the drug companies... much like the deregulation requested and approved which lead up to current financial crisis and financial meltdown. Dude, the world was just fine without prescription drug advertising..."ask your doctor" adds. Gosh, Doctor, I've got an annoying pain in my [fill in the blank]... the TV said to ask you about it! It's wrong and wasteful and there is nothing fascist about removing these adds... read history... even a dictionary... the fact is, it isn't anti-fascist to demand the revision of the laws on PRESCRIPTION drug advertising. It's the opposite.
I canceled TV. It's great! Want to make a change? Start with cancelling TV first and see how they scramble!
... and disallow health/medical/pharmaceutical companies spending on lobbying or contributing to politician's campaigns.
Talk about saving billions...
I don't find these ads to be a problem.
1. There are thousands of drugs doctors can not be expected to remember each one. Advertising helps refresh there memory on the most recent ones.
2. When a new drug is released doctors need to know. They all don't read every journal out there. Ads help keep doctors aware of new drugs in a way that doesn't cause conflicts of interest.
3. When a patient asks about a drug they saw in an ad it can sometimes lead to a more detailed conversation about there condition.
And they keep men focussed on the dream of a bigger, better winky.
Why is your first response to any economic issue to limit freedom?
We need less government interference, not more.
