Hold on to you hat, I just had a thought (I know, GOD help us all). . . Why do we not turn government on its head by leaving the President and the Supreme Court in DC and moving the Congressional offices, Senate and House of Representatives, to their home areas.
Technology has progressed enough that the Congress could hold teleconferences in their local library office that has a public viewing area. Of course, classified hearings would be closed off, but that would also help force a rotation of individuals so that no one hogs up seats and the library could sell per meeting tickets that would help raise funds to cover the communication, building and utility costs of their operations. That way the voters could have the opportunity to oversee their elected official in action (or inaction), gain a more direct access to them, and promote real Transparency in Government.
This would also help reduce Congress’s carbon footprint by reducing the need to travel back and forth from their offices in DC to their homes within their districts on the weekends.

This operation is getting rather funny, First off I post the entry and it goes into "My Ideas" page but does not get posted. Later on, I notice that it has dissapeared from "My Ideas", I then make a comment on the "Transparency Governance" blog and about an hour later my post reappears after 9 additional postings have occured.
It appears that someone got caught with their hands in the cookie jar.
Well you have it close.
Congress is ONLY to make laws over the 3 branches of government! That is all the real authority it has!
If they would STOP trying illegally to usurp authority over the people, they would only meet about 30 days a year and go home to their real jobs the rest of the year! That is how this nation was formed.
If we decentralize congress then lobbyists will have a harder time inflicting their influence in a none open way. Instead if you have a issue to lobby you write an email and leave a digital trail of the thought. Our government must take upon itself to modernize the formate to the information age, with the all due precaution to keep it safe and transparent.
