Say No to Government run healthcare

Why Is This Idea Important?: Government bureaucracy solves no problem.

Look how the Government runs Medicare/Medicaid, Military Healthcare, and VA Healthcare. Is that what you want for all? Inefficiencies, fraudulent claims, overstated claims, abuse. How does that help the average person? All it does is raise the costs while lowering standards. Ask a Veteran how happy they are with their quality of care.

When was the last time a Government entity came up with a medical cure to anything? Keep healthcare privatized.

Taxes will increase to pay for more bureaucracy that will solve nothing. Wait lists will increase. A government bureaucrat will determine whether or not you life is important enough to save or treat.

More government and less freedoms are never the answer!

  1. Yeah, I want the same people who renew my driver's license to deliver my health care.

There definitely need to be modifications made to our present system. It makes no more sense to have the people that answer to stockholders determine your healthcare options than the scenario you propose.

I believe it is tragic that a nation as powerful as we claim to be cannot provide a better healthcare system than the one we struggle with now. We feel confident in allowing our government to provide for our national defense with pride. Why couldn't we demand the same level of excellence from our medical community?

  3. Providing your medical care is NOT a legitimate function of government -- read the Constitution and feel free to correct me when you find the appropriate clause which says it is.

We have the finest health care in the world, DESPITE the meddling of government. It is obvious that you know NOTHING about this topic aside from being a spoiled beneficiary of the existing system.

If you can cite five services that government delivers to the public in BETTER FASHION than does the private sector, I might have to reconsider my position. I'm waiting...just five.

  4. Government can't successfully run anything!! Look at the failures it has already structured including Medicare and Medicade. In Canada(where they have socialized medicine)the death rate from colon cancer is 48% compared to 32% in the U.S. because there the gov't won't pay for the expensive drugs people need. We also don't need gov't officials making decisions about our health care.

    Ivan,

If your tirade was directed at me, then settle down. Nowhere in my comment did I state that our government is responsible for providing medical care. I simply stated (correctly) that our present health care system could be modified and improved. Your knee-jerk rant is indicative of someone not willing to reasonably debate a topic.

In calmly responding to your drivel, I would post the following.

According to the newest World Health Organization rankings, the U.S. rates 37th in health care. This is a statement of fact. It is also interesting to note that of the top 10, 6 are countries that provide some level of nationalized health care.

    In summation:

    1. I simply proposed that we modify our present system to provide better care for our citizens.

    2. You attacked my statement by mis-stating it, then argued your point using incorrect information.

    3. I provided facts which disproved your argument.

I don't believe that a complete socialization of our health care system is the appropriate approach to our DOCUMENTED shortcomings in that area. I do believe our government could be instrumental in improving our system. I don't think that billing specialists at insurance companies are any more qualified to make decisions about our health care than are the DMV employees alluded to in your original post.

I suggest you completely read someone's post prior to responding, as I have done with yours.

  6. Okay, you want my response thewgarber? Where do you see a tirade? I merely stated facts:

"Providing your medical care is NOT a legitimate function of government -- read the Constitution and feel free to correct me when you find the appropriate clause which says it is."

    and

"We have the finest health care in the world, DESPITE the meddling of government. It is obvious that you know NOTHING about this topic aside from being a spoiled beneficiary of the existing system."

You want a solution? Get the government out of the business of health care COMPLETELY! Get the employer out of the equation as well. Once we have all of the third parties out the relationship, insurance companies and consumers can negotiate the level and scope of their coverage, much the same as we do our car insurance.

And you can take all the WHO reports you find and shove them where they belong...where did they rank Cuba?

The fact is, whenever anyone of means, living anywhere in the world, gets gravely ill, if they can so afford, they travel here for treatment. I know! I've seen it first hand.

As for your "summation" is so fallacious that you can file that with your WHO reports.

It is interesting that you claim you desire a removal of third parties from the health care equation, then list insurance companies as one of the two that should be involved. I would counter it should be between the patient and the health care provider. The insurance company IS a third party.

Your insistence that we have the best health care in the world is patently false. Your claim that people flock to this country for care is tempered by the fact that citizens of other countries buy supplemental health insurance to visit our country so their entire families are not bankrupted by a trip to the doctor in America to treat a broken arm. Your refusal to believe WHO reports is your choice, but I couldn't find anyone else that ranks world health care.

I emphatically agree that our doctors CAN provide the best health care in the world. I just find it unfortunate that the average American can't afford that level of care.

I would, again, suggest you read (without pre-conceived notions) my original post. I do not support a government run health care system. I support a health care system that provides affordable and comprehensive medical treatment to our citizens.

Your mis-characterization of my post, and subsequent post, notwithstanding; I believe we can improve our present system to make it more available to everyone.
