When the government makes a mistake that negatively affects someone the government should be obligated to correct the problem

Why Is This Idea Important?: Integrity, honesty, fairness, truth, justice

Example: Say the social security administration accidentally declares someone dead even though they are still alive. This causes an enormous amount of trouble for the person; benefits are canceled, credit is not available and the person who is the victim is obligated to work to fix the problem. Instead, a person, or group, in the government agency at fault should be obligated to work on the problem to the exclusion of anything else, with this obligation moving up the chain of command the longer it is unresolved.

  1. I agree - but the politicians and the courts have a concept called "sovereign immunity" which essentially means they can screw us and not be held accountable. Still, as the years go by this concept has been minimized - it always helps to at least try and sue the inept government employees and the politicians. Recently marines were allowed to sue the corrupt lying Senator John Murtha for his slander of them.

    James,

Sovereign Immunity IS a problem, alright, but the solution you're looking for requires the agency or law that created the problem to be examined and rooted out. Your proposal would only exacerbate the problem! Get rid of the enabling problem and then none of us would have to sue the government for anything.

Example, Social Security is fraud and theft and involuntary servitude. IF as I suspect you're a recipient of SS, you'll be saying something like, "I paid into it and I deserve to get my money out." I would agree about what you deserve, but the fraud and theft has to end somewhere. I'm "eligible" for SS benefits, but I gave them up many, many years ago because of my morals. The SS system is fraught with moral problems and thus we should not be confused when we see our Republic lost. IF you don't see a moral problem or if you don't know that we have already lost our Republic, then I can't help you. Theft is stealing no matter what nice name you give it. It doesn't matter what you call something, it matters what it is. And SS is legalized plunder. May I suggest you download a free copy of "The Law" by Frederick Bastiat. My son read this when he was 15 years old, and on his own volition some years later he committed parts of it to memory. He then bought a box of the booklets to give them out to people, but now it's available free. Please do avail yourself the free download. Just do a Google for "The Law" by Bastiat. James, "The Law" was written a hundred and fifty years ago. I think you'd be enlightened. All the best! Don Wood
