I would like to be able to vote on issues directly, rather than having elected representatives vote for us. With internet sites we could vote for which issues are worthwhile, then have a second vote that decides how the issue should be handled.

The only concern I have is that the system could be gamed - easily. Two Yale (I believe) students showed how they could game voting machies. Web sites and the Internet are easy targets for fraud and hackers.
With the vast quantity of legislation comming out of Congress, the adverage person would not be able to earn a living and vote on all of the worthwhile issues.
Are you suggesting that only the individuals who have the time be allowed to cast their votes and ignore the voices of the those who do not have the time? That would be the same thing we have now in congress, except they get paid to do that.
So we would save money by getting rid of CONgress?
Several years ago Ross Perot suggested this. Perot was attacked because the politicians and media felt citizens were not wise enough to make their own decisions.
Direct Democracy a la ancient Athens, eh? :)
