LEGALIZE MARIJUANA

Why Is This Idea Important?: Because it's the only way to "win" the war on drugs.

There's no reason we spend billions each year on the war on Marijuana. Marijuana should be legalized, taxed, and regulated the same as alcohol and cigarettes.

There are so many benifits that this drug has that keeping it illegal and out of responsiable adult hands is keeping help away from people that can use it and simply keeping up the American people from making the right choices...If handled correctly this could not only provide relief for many but also give our economy a much needed boost. Its simply time to do the right thing...

  2. If drinking the poison alcohol is legal, I see no right for marijuana to be.

its a violation of the x and ix amendments for the government to impose a blanket prohibition. if the cannabis trade occurred entirely within a given state's boarders regulation would fall solely within the jurisdiction of the state.

Even if they discovered marijuana could revive the dead, I believe the Feds would find some way to even make that sound bad. So what chance is there that scientific studies that prove canabanoids fight the spread of cancer will open the eyes of the anti drug zealots that prosper from the war on drugs. Not much I suppose.

  5. I fully support the idea, but please don't spam the site with duplicate posts- it makes us look as bad as the birth certificate folks. Just vote for the two posts that are already at the top spots- #3 and #5. If we can vote those up the the top (again) they will at least start to get the message that we are serious and representative of a larger number of voters.

We are a group that is often marginalized and disqualified as a fringe minority of "dumb stoners." Spamming the site with duplicates only serves to detract from the already little credibility that we have with government- so please try to play by the rules and cast your vote in a manner that applies to guidelines of the site.

As a vocational rehabilitation counselor in training for my masters, I had beginning and advanced "drug issues." All the studies show that, with any addictive drug (and I'm not sure mariujuana even is addictive) the more secure the supply, the better the user can manage his/her life around it and get off it if s/he wants to. Doctors and or social workers (many of whom need jobs) would help manage patients with these problems non-judgmentally. They could prescribe at the level the patient starts with them. This would stop the illegality if done willingly with patients' desire. And, they could offer intervention with counseling if the patient wants to stop. Best of all we could tax it for patients with above average incomes.

All that's needed is a public education campaign about these facts and I bet 99% of users would enter willingly. Inexpensive drugs they could count on so they could clear their heads of the search anxiety and try to begin life anew?! The success would depend on follow-through which would be so incredibly much less expensive than jails and prisons, that society would probably be glad to start getting this monkey off our backs. Put a stop to this hemmoraging of our life blood, our peoples' productivity and happiness. Stop this huge tragedy of wasted lives. Educate, legalize, manage and tax. After freeing all non-violent drug prisoners with the deal that they sign up, turn some prisons into vocational training places (and homeless shelters during this recession.) It may be necessary to TEMPORARILY monitor patients during the start-up of the program. It would be necessary to have the supply-mechanism absolutely worked out, to provide secure stabilizing, which is the purpose of the whole program. Educate providers as to this purpose.
