The president was drawing on Sura 5:32. Somehow, though, he managed to leave out the very next verse, Sura 5:33:

Speaking at the University of Cairo, President Barack Hussein Obama said that Americans are indebted to Islam for the great contributions Muslims have made to the history and development of the United States.
“I know that Islam has always been a part of America’s story,” Mr. Obama told the throng of unenlightened Muslims. “The first nation to recognize my country was Morocco. . . And since our founding, American Muslims have enriched the United States.”
Mr. Obama went on to say: “They [Muslims] have fought in our wars. They have served in our government. They have stood for civil rights. They have started businesses. They have taught at our universities. They’ve excelled in our sports arenas. They’ve won Nobel Prizes, built our tallest building and lit the Olympic torch. And when the first Muslim American was recently elected to Congress, he took the oath to defend our Constitution using the same holy Koran that one of our founding fathers, Thomas Jefferson, kept in his personal library.”
No one at the Egyptian University or the international media took issue with the President’s bizarre interpretation of American history, let alone his confusion of the Nation of Islam (the religion of Muhammad Ali and Malcolm X) that bears scant similarity to orthodox Islam. The Nation of Islam teach that Allah in the flesh was a bona fide nutcase named Wallace Fard and that Eli Muhammad, a conman with a tested IQ of 70 and not the Prophet Muhammad, was the true last prophet of Allah.
Let’s set the record straight once and for all.
Sorry, Barack Hussein, but there were no Muslims among the passengers on the Mayflower or the settlers at Jamestown. Muslims were conspicuously absent from the ranks of George Washington’s Army of the Revolution and played no role in the creation of the American republic - - save for the fact that the new country’s first declaration of war was against the forces of Islam in the form of the Barbary pirates.1
Despite popular folklore, few Muslims numbered among the 12 million black Africans who were shipped to the New World from the 17th to 19th centuries. The Muslims, in fact, were not the slaves but the slave traders. Senegalese educator Amadou-Mahtar M’Bow has written that in 1587 a shipload of Moriscos (Spanish Moors) landed in a coastal area of South Carolina. The Moors, he contends, migrated to the mountains of eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina where they established colonies.2 In reality, this is pure speculation. There is not a scintilla of archival or archaeological evidence to support this claim.
This is not to say that no Muslim slaves were transported to the colonies. Two such slaves - - Ayuiba Suleiman Diallo and Omar ibn Said - - were brought to America is 1731 but both were returned to Africa in 1734.3 In a Herculean effort to materialize at least one Muslim living in America before the Civil War, Muslims in America, an Islamic website, point to the name of Mahomet, the great grandson of Uncas, the founder of the Mohegan tribe, on a gravestone in Norwich, Connecticut.4 The name of this Native America, they argue, resembles that of the prophet, and, therefore, he must have been a convert to Islam.
In a similar example of straining at gnats, the compilers of The Collections and Stories of American Muslims, a non-profit organization, claim that Peter Salem, a former slave who fought at the Battle of Bunker Hill, must have been a Muslim since “Salem” bears an etymological resemblance to “Salaam,” the Arabic word for peace.5
For additional proof, the compilers turn to folklore, such as the story of Old Tom, a slave at a plantation in Georgia, who allegedly uttered, “Allah is God and Mohammed his Prophet” on his death-bed - - and the apocryphal tale of “Old Lizzy,” a slave from Edgefield County, who reportedly said, “Christ built His first church in Mecca.”6
Surprisingly, there is no record of any Islamic American among the enlisted and conscripted forces of World War I, let alone among the blue and grey armies of the Civil War. The great migrations that lasted from 1865 to 1925 brought 35,000,000 people to the New World: 4,500,000 from Ireland, 4,000,000 from Great Britain, 6,000,000 from central Europe, 2,000,000 from the Scandinavian countries, 5,000,000 from Italy, 8,000,000 from Eastern Europe, and 3,000,000 from the Balkans. But the number of Muslims who came here from the Middle East was statistically nil.7
In 1960, aside from the temples of the Nation of Islam, the only mosques in the United States were in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dearborn, Michigan, and Washington DC (which opened in 1957) - - and all three professed less than 200 active members. Four other cities contained miniature mosques with less than fifty members.8
Oh, yes, Jefferson did possess a copy of the Koran which Keith Ellison, our first openly Muslim Congressman, used to make his oath of office. But what was Jefferson opinion of Islam? Did he believe the Muslim religion represented a salubrious influence in world affairs? Far from it. In 1786 Thomas Jefferson, then US ambassador to France, and John Adams, then US Ambassador to Britain, met in London with Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja, the Dey’s ambassador to Britain, in an attempt to negotiate a peace treaty with the Barbary Pirates based on Congress’ vote of funding. To the US Congress these two future Presidents later reported the reasons for the Muslims’ hostility towards America, a nation with which they had no previous contacts.
“…that it was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman (Muslim) who should be slain in Battle was sure to go to Paradise.”
Jefferson had it right.
Obama has it wrong.
By and large, Muslims are Godly people of morals and faith. True their ethics, especially feminist and individualist ethics, vary far from most Americans, but their faith is not far from Christianity or Judaism except for a few key pieces of doctrine, and frankly their morals are more in line with conservative Christian values than most US liberals. Conservative Christians could have much to gain on the morality front of marriage, abortion, abstinence education etc, by cooperating rather than alienating moderate Muslims.
While I expect that racism will creep into every public discussion of political issues, I am surprised that such virulent, blind bigotry should pop up on this site, where most respondents are thoughtful and intelligent people.
White Christians in this county grow up like fish in a white Christian ocean. I understand how this warps their perspective relative to every other human group. What I don't understand is how this immersion enables people to brand a single violent act by a person of X race and/or culture representative of the entire body of X race or practice.
Consider the following historical examples: Timothy McVeigh, Ted Kaczinski, Eric Rudolph, Terry Nichols, the bombing killers of 4 black children in church, the many who burn clinics that perform abortions (and the recent assassin of a clinic doctor), the Ku Klux Klan, The Weathermen, bombers of the Hebrew Benevolent Congregation Temple of Atlanta, the Jewish Defense League, the killers of Orlando Letelier and Ronni Moffit, The Armed Resistance Unit, The Order, the Earth Liberation Front, Lucas John Helder (The Mailbox Pipe Bomber), and so on and on.
Now all these people, while not necessarily Christian, were all to my knowledge white Americans. So based on this record of domestic terrorism, don't you think we should be going after white Americans as a class? Don't they at least rank with the 19 men who allegedly plane-bombed the World Trade Center?
After the Oklahoma City bombing, didn't you tell everyone you know, "You gotta watch out for these white Americans, especially the fundamentalist types. They can't be trusted and shouldn't be allowed to live in MY country"?

aherodias.1, while I understand you first statement in the post, I must point out that the reason that negative comments should not be just washed aside for noone to see or hear, is of course for the fence sitters. Because as some of the people who have posted here with differing views on the issue have proven, there will always be people with the other viewpoint (and usually more thought out and intelligent posts) that will give someone very good information. That is the reason that we have debates, to argue is to learn. I do say that this is definitely not the place to post an idea to kill all muslims, or all of any race or religion for that matter.

Barack Obama wants you to ignore what he is doing, he wants you to ignore the U.S. Constitution, he wants you to think that the parts of the Constitution that he does not agree with (like the requirements to serve as President) are unimportant.
In effect, he wants to destroy the U. S. Constitution and reshape this country into his own image of what he wants it to be.
And Barack Obama's attorneys have now taken another big step to destroy the Constitution of the United States -- this time in a California State Court. Those attorneys, working with liberal California State Attorney General Jerry Brown, convinced the Judge in our case to rule that only Members of Congress can challenge the qualifications of Mr. Obama, or any candidate, to serve as President.
And, the Judge further ruled that such a challenge could only be made on the 6th day of January following the meeting of the Presidential electors, at the session of Congress where the vote of the Electoral College is counted and the results announced. To use the Judge's words, this is "the exclusive means for challenges to the qualifications of President..."
That means that no one, except a Member of Congress, and only on one certain day of the year following the Presidential election, can challenge the qualifications of a President-Elect! And then, the challenge can only be successful if a majority of the Members of Congress support the challenge! And that means that the politicians, not the people, are in control of who becomes President if there is an eligibility issue!
Is that what you want? Do you believe that the majority party in both Houses of Congress should be deciding who is eligible to serve as President? Do you want Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, or Harry Reid deciding who is President?
That means that the requirements of the U. S. Constitution as to the eligibility of the man or woman who runs for President to serve as President are meaningless!
Do you believe that the Constitution is a meaningless document? Do you believe that a majority of the Members of Congress have the right to ignore it? To render it of no force and effect?
The Trial Court Judge in our case did! But we are not going to accept his decision. We are not going to accept the legal arguments made by Barack Hussein Obama's attorneys, and those by attorneys from liberal California Attorney General Jerry Brown. The voters of the United States of America have the right to know whether Barack Obama is a "natural born citizen," as REQUIRED by the U. S. Constitution!
It's a question that MUST be answered!
Why? Because, if an unqualified person was elected to the Office of President of the United States, our entire form of government could be compromised!
Why?
Because, if Barack Hussein Obama is not eligible to serve as President of the United States, each and every act that he takes as President will be null and void! That's right, each bill that he signs into law, every Executive Order that he issues, and each and every one of his nominations to his Cabinet and to the federal courts will have no legal effect!
I don't make that statement lightly. It's not an exaggeration.
Article 2, Section 1, Clause 4 of the United States Constitution provides, in pertinent part, as follows: "No Person except a natural born Citizen... shall be eligible to the Office of President..."
That means that neither Osama Bin Laden, nor California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, nor Obama billionaire money man George Soros can serve as President of the United States. That also means that if Barack Obama was born outside of the United States, he is not eligible to serve as President of our great country!
So where was Mr. Obama born?
He claims to have a copy of his birth certificate. That means that either he knows where he was born, or he's lying about having that document.
And only Barack Hussein Obama's ACTUAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE can answer that question of where he was born. But he has teams of attorneys, all across the country, spending, and doing, whatever it takes to make sure that no one, and I mean NO ONE, will be allowed to see the one document that can clear up this controversy
Mr. Obama has claimed that his Presidential administration will be the most transparent in history. Yet, he will not make public the one document that could end all of the questions about the legitimacy of his election as President.
And you have to ask yourself, WHY?
Is it because this is some unimportant "technicality"? No, a requirement of the U. S. Constitution is not a mere "technicality"!
Is it because "President" Obama (if he is the President of the United States) has more important issues to deal with, and can't spare the time to deal with such a trivial issue? No, what is more important than the integrity of the Office of the President?
Or, is there something more involved?
Another question that the Obamaphiles don't want to answer is why, in 2005, was a law firm with ties to Mr. Obama researching the question as to how to evade the requirements of Article II of the United States Constitution, regarding the requirements to serve as President. 2005? Three years before the Presidential campaign?
If that doesn't raise questions in your mind, then nothing will!
And then there's the statements made by representatives of the State of Hawaii!
According to Dr. Chiyome Fukino, of the State of Hawaii's Department of Health,
"Therefore, I as Director of Health for the State of Hawaii, along with the Registrar of Vital Statistics who has statutory authority to oversee and maintain these type of vital records, have personally seen and verified that the Hawaii State Department of Health has Sen. Obama's original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures."
Exactly what does that mean? If she can access it, why can't we? It is that very record that USJF financed lawsuits in Mississippi and in Hawaii were seeking to force into the public arena! But Obama's attorneys, and his allies in state government, stopped those efforts cold!
So, the time of decision is now!
Do we give up?
Do we just ignore this threat to our Constitution? To our very form of government?

I wish you could either a) stop posting this idiocy or b) take it to a different forum, preferably the former.
Just so's you know: There are many, many instances in which acts of government, substantial in their effects on the people, are passed in clear and flagrant violations of the Constitution. Your resort to that honored document to support a trivial cause is less than foolish, it's actually juvenile.
Couple of examples:
In Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad Company [118 U.S. 394 (1886)], the Supreme Court decided that corporations are "persons" with the same constitutional rights as ordinary citizens, despite the fact that the 14th Amendment begins with the language "All persons born or naturalized in the United States..." I know I don't have to persuade you that corporations are neither born nor naturalized. I leave it to your judgment whether that decision in fact codifies corporations as constitutional "persons."
The Constitution definitively gives Congress the power to coin money and regulate its value (i.e., the content of the present discussion). Nowohere does it say that Congress can delegate these powers to private individuals or businesses. Yet as we know, both the Federal Reserve and many private banks create money daily, presumably justified by the Federal Reserve Act of 1913.
The Internal Revenue Act... and so on and so on. You may as well give it up. The USA does not support its own Constitution unless they find that the document rules in favor of corporations and banks.
Regarding Obama's birth certificate: I don't give a damn and why should you? He could be from Mars as far as I'm concerned, but given that as a man and as president he's about a thousand times an improvement over George W. Bush.
And by the way, Big Rooster (or should I call you Small Cock?), your argument that Islam is not a race is a tired and lame diversion. How about we lump all forms of bigotry into the same basket and I just call you a super-bigot whose opinions are not worthy to be heard?
As a result of the repeated racism I find in this thread, I am bowing out, regardless of compassionate encouragement from others (phirestalker). It's a waste of time to debate with fools.
