Your IP address is not private info, any more than your drivers licence number or even your ssn (even though we think of it as such). Your IP address MUST be known to ANY OTHER COMPUTER YOUR CONNECT TO. PERIOD. Otherwise, the remote host cannot send any reply and teh interwebs are broken!!!

If you cannot deal with that FACT, then stay of teh interwebs.

The original poster also fails to mention that it is corporations who like to track IPs to gather demographic info. It is also corporations and private parties that initiate the vast bulk of SLAP suits, non-competes, and other forms of intimidation.

To run afoul of the government you need to work a great deal harder. You have to actively conspire to commit an actual crime worthy of consideration by federal law enforcement.

To run afoul of a corporation: just say something they don't like to hear.

I spoke yesterday with the IP developer of this site opengov.ideascale.com. The software being used here was a free program that they picked to use and they have found that the "free" program they picked to use came with a "tracker" that installs on your operating system. Not a "cookie" or file in your "cache" but an operating system tracker, tracking sites the user went to. This WAS NOT THEIR INTENT but a sly trick used by the software developer offering a "FREE" software program to track users of the software program they offer for use for free. The IP webmaster of opengov.ideascale.com is working on removing that self installing tracker from this software they choose to use here.

I don't say anything I'm ashamed of, let them track.

If the owner of this site ended up with spyware on his server, the software should definitely be avoided, but it's mostly harmless unless the site owner is also surfing the web from his webserver. Even then, it has no effect on you, me, or ktm4rt1n.

However, "inviting yourself" to meet someone online in person without their invitation and after indicating hostility towards them is definitely a threat and thoroughly unacceptable by all definitions of netiquette. I'm reporting your posts, in case ktm4rt1n is not for whatever reason.

Additionally, you would be wisse to consider what you really know about ktm4rt1n. Aside from the fact that multiple people can, indeed, have the same username, it's also very possible this individual has created an imaginary online persona that you Googled. If that's the case, you might very well be speaking to an underage girl, and stating intent to meet them face to face. That goes beyond netiquette violations, and for all you know it could be the case.
