Adapt the Internacional Metric system
This would improve greatly physical, mathematical and tecnological cooperation with other countries in scientific and engineering endeavours...

And at least lets face it, when it comes to the really small, nanometers are already used (for instance processor and advanced electronics production), aside from the fact that it is much more easy to understand and use(1Meter=10Decimeters=100Centimeters=1000Milimeters=1*10^9Nanometers), its not base on the length of the thumb of feet of a long dead british king...

Obviusly this change wouldnt be made over nigth but will have a transition period(kind of like when most countries in europe changed their currency to the euro)

I belive this would make a stronger better america in the medium/long run...

Why Is This Idea Important?

This would improve greatly physical and tecnological development in scientific and engineering endeavours... and join the Rest of the World in having a standart, understandable and efficient measurement unit.

And if you disagree please state why you disagree so that we that belive this to be rigth can ponder on it and review our stance if your reason has reason and value.
Thanks

How about focusing on "Spelling" standards first! And establish English as Global Language.

The imperial system of measurements is unarguably outdated and unnecessary. Unfortunately, the cost of switching will be a focal point of conservatives and the benefits are lost on them.

It's the same reason we're still using suboptimal QWERTY keyboards.

One argument "for" the American Customary system is that "we already know it." Really?
How many cubic inches in a quart? (There are 1000 cm^3 in a liter)
How much does a quart of water weigh? (A liter weighs a kilogram.)
How much does a cubic yard of water weigh? (A cubic meter of water weighs a metric ton.)
How many feet are in 173 and 5/16 inches? (The same length in centimeters, ~440.2, is 0.4402 meters.)
How many square feet in an acre? (There are 10,000 m^2 in a hectare.)
If I have a room that's 17' 4" X 12' 5", how many square yards is that? (A similar room, 5.28 m X 3.78 m = 19.96 m^2)
55 Watts / 110 volts = 1/2 ampere. Oh, wait, that's already Metric.
How many tablespoons are in a quart? How many feet is a rod? A chain? (Which kind of rod or chain?)

People who say they know our system don't. Even when you know it, it's a pain to deal with. Using it makes us less competitive both because it takes longer to get the answers and because nobody else in the rest of the world wants stuff in inches and ounces.

Do you know who else has stood against the Metric system? Nobody. Liberia and Myanmar still have other systems, but they use metric for trade and commerce.

Let's get witht he program.

Our government just needs to put its foot down and start the conversion process. Ignore the naysayers who'll show up screaming that it's too costly (bull--the benefits will quickly outweigh any costs; govt can help out the industries that would be most affected), unpatriotic (bull again--COLONIAL ENGLISH measures are what's unpatriotic), or unnecessary (globalizing economy says otherwise). This is definitely a large-scale project which can generate a great deal of jobs. Besides, this is America we're talking about. No one does large-scale projects better than us. Let's wake up and finally become a part of the the world. Let's do it!
