Get the government out of private business

Why Is This Idea Important?: It's important because you never get anything for free. Forget the higher taxes (well, don't actually do that), this is an encroachment on liberty and a journey into tyranny.

That's right. Get out!

The government's meddling in business directly lead to the housing bust and the credit crisis, thereby directly causing 2 of the big 3 automakers to go bust and be taken over by the government, which will now DICTATE how these "private" businesses operate.

Get out!

and you want to take over the healthcare industry, which is about 17% of our economy.

Get OUT!

We know this is about power. You want power over the cars we drive, power over the personal decisions we make about our health, and power over virtually every decision we make. After all, if everything we do impacts our health, the economy, or the environment (maybe all 3?). then you have power over everything we do if you control all these facets of our lives.

Get out now!

Politicians are not competent to run business. They need not concern themselves about whether a project is feasible nor sustainable. If it doesn't work, they merely throw more of other people's money at it.

People consider businesspersons to be motivated by GREED! (They always capitalize and add an exclamation point.) Well, those people in business often have their own money invested, and have fiduciary duties to other investors.

People demanding more money from government, on the other hand, are not managing their own money, nor that of willing investors. If anybody is motivated by GREED! it would seem to be these folks. No matter how much they get, it's never enough. Other people always have more to confiscate.

When was the last time that AMTrak made a profit . . . Oh, that was before the Government took it over for a short 40 years and counting.

  3. The government alone isn't the blame. If you really look at it. And I mean really look. You'd see that the greed of the few have come to punnish the masses. If the banks didn't give out money they shouldn't have to people who couldn't pay their bills. There wouldn't have been a housing crisis. If the car companies spent their time and money making a better product and working towards a more streamlined industry instead of paying massive money to lobbiests to fight the established rules and laws then there wouldn't have been a collapse of the auto industry.

Remember they went to the government begging for money not the other way around. If you wan't to be pissed at the government for their attempt to thwart another depression then so be it. Without regulation the working class becomes a slave system fot the wealthy. History proves that over and over and over again.

As far as health care goes I dare you to call a hospital and ask how much an apendix removal will cost you out of pocket.

When was the last time you bought something without knowing the price.

Dragon_master_, if you really look at it, and I mean really look, you will find that government created the incentives, and greedy people were motivated by them.

The CRA told banks to lend to people who couldn't pay their bills. The head of WorldCom was touted as a hero by politicians for making such loans possible. Others who wanted to be considered heroes followed suit.

Since government regulates practically everything and anything, companies have great incentive to employ lobbyists. This is especially true of such a heavily regulated industry as automobiles. Many CEOs would prefer to not pony up to campaigns every six months, but feel they have no choice; that's how the system works, and those who don't play the game lose out as politicians enact for the benefit of their lobbying competition.

Auto companies bult what people would buy. For a while they could limit the consumer's choice, but then the Japanese imports started to compete. A lot of people didn't want little Pepsi cans; the Japanese started building bigger models, and to get around CAFE standards so that people could buy the big vehicles they wanted, Detroit put high heels and lipstick on pickup trucks and called them "Eshoovies". People bought them -- until the price of oil rose.

In the 1950s even major surgery was affordable. {I know; a family member had major surgery at the time.) That was before government got into the business. Since then, prices have risen astronomically. Every attempt to control costs -- e.g., the 1980s proposal of reducing cost by adopting the HMO model -- has ultimately increased costs.

If you believe that the current government strategy is the correct one, you are buying something without knowing the price. The destruction of the dollar as they print more money backed by nothing will have costs that cannot be accurately estimated.
