"The prospect of tyranny may not grab the headlines the way vivid stories of gun crime routinely do. But few saw the Third Reich coming until it was too late. The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed--where the government refuses to stand for reelection and silences those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees. However improbable these contingencies may seem today, facing them unprepared is a mistake a free people get to make only once".

Thank-you for your insight Judge Kozinsky....your post is so true....the Second Ammendement is the backstop to our democracy...I'm hoping we never have to use it!
I am neither a Jew, nor do I have any Jews as close friends. But I am a student of ancient history. From what I’ve studied, it is evident that if this administration continues on its hostile course toward Israel, God will, as He has always done through the millenniums, defend Israel. And America, as the speck that it is in the course of human history, will be brought to its knees. We are playing with fire.
I'm not Judge Kozinsky, but no one has ever stated this principle better.
The second amendment exists for a very good reason, and it is not the province of government, or popular opinion, to change it.
Our problems with crime are due to an excess of barbarians, not to any excess of freedom!
If our ultimate protection against tyranny is for us all to have guns so we can go and out start shooting people, heaven help us. The only purpose guns serve is to injure or kill people or force them to do things against their will. We have so much more power to resist tyranny and achieve good by using our voices, hearts, minds, and actions than anyone ever will by killing. What we fail to accomplish by collective action will never be accomplished with guns. Meanwhile, while we're waiting for the exceptionally rare circumstances when everything goes wrong and we have to resort to guns, thousands of people in our communities are being gunned down every day. Thousands of needless funerals. We don't need guns. We need the shooting to stop. We need peace.
That is not all all what I said!
Less than 1/10 of one percent of privately owned firearms are used for criminal purposes. Only a very small percentage of those who use guns misuse them. You can spin numbers until you turn blue, and never change the facts. You can make excuses until Hell freezes over, the fact will remain, some people will simply abuse freedom. I don't really care why, it just doesn't seem possible to change them.
The vast majority of gun owners behave responsibly, the statistics prove that out.
@bre2002 that is such a mindless joke. How would you voice, heart, mind, and actions stop Hitler save picking up a gun and fighting? Some people are cold, calculating, power hungry, evil, some are just plain irrational and crazy religious zealots/politicians. You are not going to talk them out of anything and if they get hold of the government, you have to take it back.
There are many truly phobic individuals, you can't reason with them, they aren't rational. There are also those who can't stand to see power in any hands but government hands, and to these you can only say, NO WAY!
If the laws already on the books were seriously enforced it would solve much of the problem. No one seems to know why that isn't happening, or, maybe they just aren't saying!
