An Independent Counsel to Investigate the Housing Bubble Explosion

Why Is This Idea Important?: This is important because the same government officials continue to heavily influence the operation of Freddy Mac and Fannie Mae even after the housing bubble explosion. Moreover, it is important to get congressmen out of what should be private sector business.

Barney Frank and Chris Dodd continue to play major roles in the business of Freddy Mac and Fannie Mae -- the two quasi-government agencies whose loose fiscal practices caused the housing bubble explosion. Frank and Dodd will be influential in conducting hearings seeking to find out who is responsible for the housing bubble snafu. This is like putting the fox in charge of the hen house! It is time that an independent-of-congress legal counsel be selected to investigate all concerned, in particular Frank and Dodd with respect to this issue.

  1. Under no conditions can we investigate the economic disaster with politicians. Bipartisan commissions will merely confirm that lots of people - other than politicians - caused the financial propblems. We need to have people untainted by either political party on this commission and any other commissions searching for the truth. Politicians cannot be trusted to investigate problems they helped cause - as was proven by the 9/11 commission.

And if the housing bubble isn't bad enough, Sen. Chris Dodd is emerging as the face of a Senate plan to overhaul the nation's health care system in the absence of Congress' acknowledged expert on the subject, ailing Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.
