State sovereignty

Why Is This Idea Important?: Texas Governor Rick Perry has denied the use of federal funding for our state, and at a recent Tea party protest claimed we could well be on that direction.

How many states have claimed sovereignty this year and why is this not being given the attention it deserves.

Some states "Claimed Sovereignty"? What does that mean?

Sovereignty means you are your own country, with a separate government, military and currency.

And Rick Perry is an idiot.

States are not claiming sovereignty they are just pointing to the 10th admendment and reminding the U.S. Government that they (the States) are the ones who created the Federal Government, not the other way around, and thus the States hold the Sovereignty of this nation, Not the Federal Government.

    I agree with we_spencer's assessment.

Georgia has filed their reminder to the Feds!

But at the same time our Governor was one of the first to say "gimme, gimme gimme" to the illegally conceived and perpetrated Stimulus Bill.

On one hand I am proud of the State and the other ashamed to live here!

I am from Texas, Perry just is not very bright; he is even less capable than Bush is. He is owned by corporate interests, panders to fundamentalist religious groups, and does everything possible to line the pockets of his cronies by fleecing the states consumers.

His statements on state sovereignty, are entirely politically motivated and designed to appeal to the dwindling hard core republican base; if actually implemented they would be a disaster for the state, likely causing a level of financial hardship that would make the current national recession look mild.

The republican base is not dwindling, it's being taken over. And I do not condone anything Rick Perry has to say, sovereignty is just to remind the government where they get their powers.
