Create Democracy.Gov Directory and Portal

Why Is This Idea Important?: The public doesn't know what level of government to contact about certain issues. You could say they don't care what level, but they need a neutral, reliable, and comprehensive strictly non-partisan place that helps them navigate official representative democracy and consultations by government agencies. Note: Democracy.Gov is currently not for use/promotion within the United States because is use by the State Department for external democracy promotion. Time "liberate" Democracy.Gov for Americans. :-)

Simple idea - create "Democracy.Gov" as a citizen-centric starting point to navigate the official opportunities for executive and legislative branch participation with geographical personalization right down to the local level. The core of the system would be government submission of data on all elected officials at all levels - local, state, and federal. The site should also provide the main directory for government-hosted/sponsored online consultations like this one as well as cost-effective facilities (and links to those supported by third parties) to host such online public hearings.

  1. Steve,

We have been on the same wavelength for

    a number of years, eh?

I guess I neglected to tell you about my similar idea:

"MyGov.gov" --> Customized to What Affects YOU

    http://opengov.ideascale.com/akira/dtd/2929-4049

FYI: This site will be active until June 19th, but the "Phase 2-Discuss" (blog?) will start Wednesday, June 3rd.

However, I suggest that we still keep this back-channel open by subscribing to the email-updates on comments for similar "Brainstorming" ideas. Just post any comment at all under any Idea, and you will be subscribed to additional further comments.

  3. Clift,

    Great Idea!

ALL VOTERS need to see What their Representatives are actually working on!

We evaluate the work of our Dentist, our Auto Mechanic and others based on the work that they do.

Unfortunalty, we vote for Elected officials based on party or campaing speeches.

NOW WE CAN SEE THEIR WORK AND RATE IT. See www.My-Representative.org

Been following for quite a while. Need to use the tools we have now...

Let us come together to form a dialogue with what we call the "4Pillars" of ARRA: governmental agencies, private industry, nonprofits and faith-based ministries, in no particular order.

Communicate together, reinvest in what we can decide is the best in pratices and services. Let's create jobs, utilize capital from the stimulus to its greatest potential. Keep Rolling!
