Why aren't programs like those created by President Franklin D. Roosevelt being used to get people working instead of creating new ways of giving handouts to people needing work? Programs like the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) or Work Projects Administration created jobs for people and made progress for the nation while helping to bring the nation out of recession.
We have roads that need to be improved through out the U.S. and neighborhoods that need to be cleaned up. There are also projects that I don't understand why nobody has ever mentioned. Like creating a Bullet Train Transportation system that would connect locations throughout the U.S. or even within States. Or, maybe even a system of canals that would route and clean flood waters from frequently flooded coastal regions to the parts of the United States that could use the excess water for power generation and agriculture. If Oil can be pumped from hundreds of miles and over mountain ranges, why can't water? These projects could have multiple benefits and would certainly create jobs for people needing work.

That's what part of the stim package had in it. And it's the part that was attacked by the repubs. They derided the $ for trains and other public transportation and so it was reduced. They also derided $ for unemployement insurance and food stamps, both programs which a good stimulators of the economy as every dollar spent returns $1.40 or more in economy stimulation. The repubs wanted and got tax cuts which produce $1.05 or less in economic stimulation.
creating government jobs is not the answer... we need to have jobs created by private companies so they will add to the country's wealth, not inflate the country's debt load.
WE ARE ALL PAYING for every government job through higher taxes and more government control! And the trouble is, it's getting worse every day.
If Jobs are abundant and being created, then there is a reduced need for Unemployment Insurance and Food Stamps. Also, it's better for Government to create the jobs that can be spun off into new businesses for the private sector, instead of taking over businesses like they are with GM. Government should not be running business, but they are responsible for creating an environment where business can thrive. Water, Agriculture, and Transportation are all already controlled by the Government and it's the citizen that ultimately maintains these for the Local, County, State, and Federal Governments. The idea I posed above would require all types of labor that can only be found in the private sector, from the laborer to technical engineers and inventors.
karidrgn, you failed to notice that tax cuts are sustainable as long as the size of the government is kept in check. Taking money from those who work and giving it to those who don't can only work in the short term.
We are approaching the point where half of the population pays no taxes. When non-tax payers become the majority, then system is irrevocably doomed. When a voting majority pays none of the bills, they are free to demand ever more unreasonable benefits. If you are willing to steal a percentage of another person's paycheck, you will soon be willing to steal it all.
Real job creation starts with tax cuts to manufacturing combined with protective tarrifs. Yes, feel pride again, buy American.
Evil giggles, have a good day.

I like the title but the methods have been proven ineffective. FDR's economic policies drove the counrty into the depths of the Great Depression. It took a World War to pull us out again. Why would we want to repeat that?
How could FDR's policies have created the great depression when it started 2 years before he became president?
Here are some stats for you to research, and please, use accurate ones and not something from Fixed Noise.
Unemployemnt on FDR's inauguration day in 1933: %25
Unemployment in 1937: %15
He stopped Government spending and in 1938 it rose to %17.
He tried to restart spending but was blocked by congress. Then WWII started and the government REALLY started spending on the military and military supplies.
OOPs my math was wrong. The great depression started in 1929. FDR became president in 1933. Now how did he create it?
Not created. Deepened. Unemployment numbers by themselves tell a misleading story. Look also at inflation, national debt, tax rates, and rates of industrial growth.
with tens-hundreds of thousands of people losing jobs every month how is the government local, federal going to gain any money? they are not we are writing out i.o.u's faster than you can say it how are we going to stop this deficit when the people are not working. imposing laws that allow employers to deny jobs due to credit scores?????what in the world is this country coming to how are people supposed to get a job? it can very well be not their fault they could not pay off their debts because they were fired/laid off whatever you would like to call it america is becoming more and more crippled everyday. GET THE PEOPLE BACK TO WORK
All great ideas/suggestions. But, the point is O'Dim-Sum does NOT want people to work. Why? Because he wants them lock-step hand to mouth living off the Gubment so they can slide easily into his Socialism/Marxism/Communism Plans.
