Service should not be compulsory.

Previously I was of the same opinion. I served in the USAF for 24 years. Three of those years was as an instructor for incoming Airmen. It was then that I realized not everyone needs to be in the military. If this service includes other agencies then it could be a viable idea but everyone definitely does NOT belong in the military.

Service should be compulsory. Sometimes kids(young adults) need a kick in the pants to get going in the right direction instead of joining gangs, getting into drugs etc. Its compulsory in Britain and Israel and seems to be working pretty good. I served and learned a lot about the world,an experience I wouldn’t trade. You wouldn’t have to serve in the military, you would have a joice i.e. green peace,red-cross etc. or military.

Sometimes, but not always Mr. Bauer. Young people should not be generalized. Whatever happened to people serving based on their own initiative and plans. I challenge anyone to force me to serve and help carry out the government's corrupt agenda, whether it is war, national service, or anything else they can dream up. There is no law, tax credit, incentive of any kind, or government official that will make me. I do not stand alone in this.

Yes, Nathan, I agree with you. Serving a very corrupt government's agenda is not for me or my children. Volunteer efforts are going on constantly through churches, schools, and just because people want to help others. Making this mandatory turns us into a Socialist society....is that what we want?

Our government needs to be downsized, follow the Constitution and encourage entrepreneurs. America is a great nation because we encourage individualism and free enterprise, and we are headed toward gargantuan government that will be ever intrusive into all Americans' lives!! Thankfully, there are many groups out there trying to combat this very thing from happening. Several books I would encourage you to read: Rules for Radicals, Secrets of The Temple, and The Forgotten Man.

Yes, Nathan, If and when W.W.3 happen's you too will have to serve whether you want to or not. Be it a front line soldier like I was or a cook serving chow, maybe a mechanic even. Should you refuse I imagine a 6x6 cell will change your mind. But don't worry when that happens (according to the bible) there want be many people left to serve anyway....If you’ve lived right. I was referring to peace time. That it would be good for young adults to serve. There would be stipulations of course. Like for instance if you went to college and got a degree, or family hardship etc. It was just something to think about I knew the American people wouldn't have the stomach for it anyway. And yes your right "scotsonjathompson" Obama is turning us into a Socialist society. I didn't like at all how he said in his speech when he was apologizing to "Muslims", we where a "Muslim" nation. Last I checked the founding fathers said we where a Christian nation,and the United States of America shouldn't have to apologies for jack! When we stop supporting our friend Israel then it's over folks, we will no longer be in Gods favor.
