End United States Sponsored Torture

17. End United States Sponsored Torture: If your enemy knows he will be tortured when captured, then he is more willing to fight to the death, making him far more deadly. To convince your enemy to surrender, they must believe they will be treated humanely after they do so. Any policy of torture is against the ethics of the United States Constitution. Torture was used on people who were detained by various means in the attempt to justify the invasion of their country. Torture was granted authority by the top levels of the Untied States government; a government gone mad.

Imperialism has usurped the rule of law, our republic is dead. Currently, our government is only pretending to be ruled by laws, only as far as it is convenient. On May 22, 2009, President Obama stated that he is considering signing a presidential order allowing, “Indefinite preventive detention of persons who might commit crimes in the future.” This statement is a direct threat to our bill of rights. Our bill of rights states under the Fifth Amendment states, “No person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.” Under the sixth amendment all people have the right to a speedy trial with witnesses and accusations. Under the seventh amendment we the people have the right to a trial of our peers. Whether this detention would be based on the rule of law and trial or done quickly over a barrel head, only time will tell.

“The constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people; it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government.” – Patrick Henry, American Revolutionary Soldier.
