Congressional Term Limits
5. Congressional Term Limit: Congressmen, both Senators and Representatives, may only serve two consecutive terms of office. The next term following two successive terms must not be served, but the congressmen may run for re-election on the fourth term for no more than two successive terms. Meaning, a congressmen may serve two terms on, one term off, then two terms on, and so forth; determined by re-election of and by the people.
• I am tired of incumbent politicians loaded with PAC money, running for re-election without restating their platform of ideals or accepting debate invitations from party rivals. They take it for granted that the American people have been watchful of their voting record and judge them on their actions in congress, for the vast majority of Americans, this isn’t true. Since this proposal opens up the forced restatement of ideals for re-election every term or every forth term, it would reaffirm to the American people that their congressional representatives have their interests in government. Good luck trying to write to your federal congressmen, if you’re lucky you might receive a reply scripted by lobbyist.

Why Is This Idea Important?

Incombants loaded with PAC money do not even bother to run an reelection campaigns, they just do massive mailers to disinform their constitutents about their ideals or sling imaginary mud at competitors. Incombants to not accept primary party debaits with their competitors. Incombants do not bother with reaching out to thier constituent base, unless it has a touchy feel good aspect that they can slam home on their websites. Incombants do not cite thier achievements, the bills they introduced or co-introduced. I am mad as hell that any incumbant was re-elected after being in office during the Bush administration. They failed at their job to moderate the executive office which allowed two wars, domestic spy program, torture, and a whole hoste of offenses.

No, two term max, with no chance to serve again.

That is not what im saying in this idea. Two on one off, two on, and so forth. Just that congressmen must take the third term off. If they win re-election the forth and fifth term, so be it. Career congressment does this country very little good.

Ask your incumbant, why are you running for re-election, what legislation do you want to enact that you did not get during your last term. This is the quenticental question that must be asked and answered of all politicans.

I understand your suggestion but it really is not necessary for them to have two on one off. If they had not accomplished their goals in the eight years in office (two terms) then their ideas, more than likly, will never good enough to turn into law or a bill. Time for new fresh ideas.

The idea here is if your representative was a do nothing party line voting bum, then you only have to suffer him for two terms. Should he/she tries to run for re-election on the forth term (3rd term auto skip) then they will have a harder time proving worthiness to run that 4th term. People do not take the time to inspect their representation or their voting record. Sheeple of the States America only react if something moves them out of their comfort zone. Being unemployed might be a factor, especially when we learn that our neighbors are all unemployed as well.

I voted for this, although I am not sure. Many long-term Sens. and Reps. have served well, and I am sure that it takes a long time to learn the ropes. OTOH, the positive effects of incumbency are too great when running for reelection. I'm not sure what the solution is, but this looks creative and worth exploring.
