Fitness Incentive Healthcare

Why Is This Idea Important?: reduce obesity. reduce stress. reduce healthcare costs. provide healthcare for all.

Let's create a national healthcare system, that is single payer, but has cost reduction incentives for being healthy. For example, let's say the healthcare premium is $100/month. If you purchase more fresh fruits, veggies and meats (Rather than fast food) and commute to work on your bike, or exercise regularly, your monthly premium can be reduced to $80/month. Or perhaps there are credits you can earn based on healthy lifestyle decisions that result in a tax refund or direct monthly premium reductions. I have no idea how the "health decisions" will be measured or accounted for. but it seems like a great opportunity to reverse the direction of our health in this country.

What about those who have no control, like children? They have to eat what their parents can afford, and what they are given. Or just the plain fact that fresh fruits and veggies are more expensive and perishable than canned, and not everyone can afford fresh all the time. So one month I'm being charged $80, then I'm going to be charged $100 when I can least afford it (because I can't afford the 'healthier' fruit at this time?). Or people who are born with health problems that fruits, veggies, and biking to work won't fix... like sickle cell anemia?
