it makes the most sense to give our young people a solid start in life. these student loans cripple them in their job selections (must earn enough to be able to live and pay back the loans) and curtails their spending just when they have the need to be setting up their homes and families.
let's forgive all loans and make college free for the next 10 years while we re-organize our priorities in this country.
instead of spending so much of our tax money killing people with our military, let's spend our taxes to educate and support our children and those in other countries.
or does this just make too much sense to be part of a government plan?

And do we also forgive them for students who are corporate lawyers making six figures? How about we allow people to work off their loans by crediting them for socially valuable work in positions that are understaffed and underfunded?
Chances are, corporate lawyers making six figures have paid off their loans already. And it's not just us non-profit workers (who make roughly 1/2 to 1/4 of our business-sector colleagues) who need relief from student debt. We could certainly put a cap on how much you can make ($100K/year?) and still receive debt amnesty for student loans, but I'm willing to bet most people will fall well under.
NO. These loans are made by private banks, not the government. They are guaranteed by the government, not funded by them. This would kill the banks who already have big problems. It comes back down to paying your way and living beyond your means.
I busted my butt to pay mine off.
