Global perspective

Why Is This Idea Important?: Require increased awareness of alternative solutions to reduce the number of choices being made from a narrow perspective.

Require a global perspective and awareness to solutions by comparing them to similar projects implemented around the world. Require a brief summary comparing the current project to the best international example with justification for any differences. Many highly effective solutions have already been found and tested which do not need to be slowly recreated again from trail and error while living in ignorance. Examples include health care, energy efficiency, waste recycling, education reform, voter participation programs, etc… Standard best examples could be posted online with citizens having the ability to comment, research, and provide suggestions.

I don't see how this is new. It was widely posted that even Bush administration officials visited (old, socialist) Europe to learn about alternative healthcare systems.

The idea of studying previously-implemented systems is taught to every MBA and is standard practice for project managers, political scientists, engineers, etc. I think the current White House is well aware that they can learn from others' experience.

While citizen involvement is certainly necessary in driving political direction and to be encouraged at certain times, going out of the way to solicit information from a host of unqualified average Joes posting half-baked ideas about sewage treatment seems simply wasteful. Government hires expert help internally, as well as via FFRDCs and contractors to handle such difficult issues.

lol, I always wanted our government to have an "office of leaning from the past".

They already try to do this, but it would be nice if officials had a pool of professional historians that could research a question put on their desk and return an outline of past results.
