We need to create a constitutional amendment separating the major media from the corporations, like the separation of church and state. Ok, that's a bit complicated and would take decades.
In the meantime, we need some anti-monopoly rules. And I want ownership to be limited to real people with names rather than some obscure entity that's impossible to trace.
We also need a system that would allow ordinary people to find out
WHO OWNS THE MEDIA. Like the ingredients and nutritional information on the back of a cereal box, I want to know what I'm feeding my mind and my children's minds. Who owns it, and who owns the owner.

Look at my idea post titled "Tool for tracking personal news/media consumption habits, and ownership of those outlets." It is in the "Uncategorized" category, idea entry #400 overall.
Actually, it's idea #401.
Good one! I gave it a thumbs-up.
It's not the same, but closely related.
We must have public financing of campaigns...period!
I know you think you don't want to pay for it...but you already ARE!
Every no bid contract, every unpaid royalty on an oil lease, every blocked piece of legislation that is supported by the majority because some committee head is paid off or intimidated into inaction, every blocked investigation...YOU PAY AND PAY AND PAY!
You pay hundreds of times what you would to finance campaigns in A CORRUPTION SURCHARGE!
WHERE DO THEY SPEND THAT MONEY THEY GET FROM CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS? THE MEDIA!!!
Do you suppose there is any connection between that and the absolute media exclusion of third party candidates? HELLO!!!
Who owns Media is exactly one of the points of view I explained to Mr President Obama a few days ago.Media is in 2009 more powerful than the Education boards and top level authorities: when PhDs in Education find a way to solve problems from children and teens daily life,Media shows more and more corrupted easy ways to live a nasty life which results are against their schools, parents and Educational research.Maybe I am wrong maybe no but I feel like Jews don't help America to create a clean cosmopolitan country unless everybody falls onto their knees to kiss their David Star not the Cosmos stars.Who Owns the Media?
luvwith ~ I forgot to mention that part in my Idea #664. (“Where do they spend…campaign contributions? The Media!!!)
In my analogy, A simple list of ingredients = “Who Owns the Media.”
Nutritional information = “Who buys advertising time or otherwise influences…”
It’s more complicated, but could be summarized with a system of definitions.
Get a system up and running with carrick’s Idea #401 (http://opengov.ideascale.com/akira/dtd/2920-4049) then simplify it and make it accessible to the masses.
If anyone has a movement or website that already exists, I’d love to see a link.
Hasn't the media(s) always been private companies?
Updating the monopoly laws could fix this, it one of the things I meant to say in Idea 681.
No need for constitutional amendments.

Josh (Idea #681) ~ Another good one. I already saw it and gave it a thumbs-up.
What I really want to propose is a French-style revolution, but with all the poison in the water and on the airwaves, there's no way to get people off their butts. We need a simple way to get their attention between their dashes to the fridge. Something as accessible as the remote control or the flush button.
I am not taking you seriously about a French-style revolution, but more a romantic jest to wake up the people :) -to stop the “ooze coming out the TV set”? But here we are on the modern tube…
Also, remember to force your own opinion on another is no better –the next generation will just look at you and do the same, and here I am forcing my opinion… see the madness?
I'm not sure what you're saying.
The current system is all about "forcing your opinion on another" and is why I want to know who owns and controls the media.
We once had a separation of church and state for a similar reason.
Nothing is going to change until the masses realize how bad things have gotten, and there's no way to get the slightest clue from the major media.
None of the brilliant ideas on this site are ever going to amount to anything.

The media worldwide is owed and operated by the Bilderbergs. Not some but all of them are even PBS. I think pressure could be brought to bear on CSPAN to get nightly news broadcast each night by the WTPA. The other item that could be done invite all the colleges and universities to broadcast from their location to CSPAN for their worldwide NEWS items with their VIEWS too.
Again the NOW word must come to play. Rupert Murdock is trying his best to take over the Internet. And the longer we hang on the more damage he can do.
To check out who owns the media

A myriad of names will appear to find out more just:
Google the name=neocon/tri lateral commission/bilderberg
There are only opion shows now no news shows. I feel CNN fell with Saddam.
All we're doing here is preaching to the choir. My point is to get that message to the masses. They don't read stuff like this. They're too busy working at their crummy jobs, fighting traffic and watching American Idol. Ranting in a place like this will never get there. We need an easy-access way to reach Joe-Beergut.
And your way of life more the right way to live... because? Your job is less crummy because why? Who are you to point your finger and judge so quickly the life of others? It has made all your points invalid.

is this better comes with a nice picture too. but will not come over this but email me at dbaker007@stx.rr.com will send it along. It will appeal to the masses have already tried or go to

TELL ME WHY WHAT WHEN HOW AND WHO? SPENT YOUR MONEY!
By Abigail David - Put your skin in the game like me.
Now there we all go. That is what our laws that get through Congress and the Senate are about. Way too much for them and us to comprehend but sad to say that is just the way our bad and going worse Federal Government works. Our big fat checkbook and they spend like crazy. Why just because we let them. That is right we could call a halt to their spending spree, if we really wanted. But, do you want to stop their spending spree?
What I have to say about that today is just too much mum boo jumbo. Seems no one that goes before Congress or the Senate can answer plain and simple questions, as in the title, about money. And when push comes to shove the ones to answer just keep on dodging. Sounds a bit like trying to get answers out of a gone wild teenager.
A good friend of mine sent me a bill before a State to be voted on. My nine-year-old grandson could have done better. What the bill finally said ---we want to spend your money for something not real sure for what---- you might get some benefits ----but that is still to be determined ---- but give us an approval to write some checks and maybe someday it might or might not all work out.
So what are we to do, as a people? Easy answer --- We must have those we trust to do our legal bidding and battle for us on Capitol Hill. And that is that.
We must as a coalition take our power [3 to 5 million of us] to Congress and the Senate and say boys and girls we come to have the final and most powerful vote on all issues. So move over give us a seat or get out.
Now how hard would that be? We 3 to 5 million strong can do that make monthly pledges hire our own attorneys and experts to do what we want. We must fight the battles with lawyers on our side the best in the west. See folks that are what lobbyist are and what they do. They wage war against us now----so to get an even chance we must do the same thing.
So bottom line WE MUST TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK. We own it not them---they are our servants just getting paid to do what we tell them to do --- but they have forgotten to whom they serve.
A very good cause I have pledged to support is the following putting my skin in the game, as it should be for all. Abigail David

Josh -- what the hell are you talking about? My job stinks, too. I said nothing about the way I live, let alone imply that it is being better. I'm not pointing a finger at anyone but those who wrongly control the media. That's it. I said that the masses don't know the truth because the mass media refuses to tell the truth. The point of this Idea #664 is to free the media and tell the truth, not to dictate any issue in particular.
The government is out of control and there's no way to organize and take it back without freedom of the press. It's simple and basic. It was the intention of the First Amendment.
Another thread that I've been following is: "Where Is The Outrage?" http://opengov.ideascale.com/akira/dtd/3799-4049
Actually, there's plenty of outrage, everywhere. Just no way to harness it while the mass media is being controlled by a tiny group of people who are not our friends. They're not just controlling the news. They're controlling and distorting everything, at every level, and pretending that no one knows or cares.
Another question that I should have asked here is: Where are the modern versions of Lennon, Dylan, or Country Joe, and CAN AN ENTIRE GENERATION OF ARTISTS BE BRAIN DEAD? I don't think so. Can the music industry be controlled like everything else and, if so, what can be done?
Yeah, a generation of artists probably can be dead. The Internet helped destroy the oral tradition -- passing down skills, stories, lessons. The last place it was really flourishing was in music/art youth subcultures. The Internet really destroyed that, because people could learn on their own and practice on their own, and just appear in the subculture. There was no real social glue holding the participants together, just an interest in advancing the genre to the "next thing." If you look at a lot of music from the late 80s/90s on, its just stuff that fractured into smaller and smaller subcultures. No of it speaks to some larger experience, and most crap you see now is just kitsch rehashing of earlier eras of creativity (hip hop, punk, graffiti, etc.) A generation raised on 30 minutes commercials masquerading as Saturday morning cartoons, grew up to watch a music TV network selling them artists they owned (MTV owns Elektra and other record companies own Christina Aquilera, Limp Bizkit, etc.) Besides that, where was the family for provide a real foundation? At work, or shopping.
You've got a weak foundation, a corrupted subculture, an economic machine that pimps instead of insulating budding creativity, and to top it off, the distorting forces of globalization. It usually takes a generation or two for immigrant children to be as engaged and influential in their environments b/c they have learn how to affect they culture they're in. Young people today are suddenly grappling with debates about whether society is well served by making women cover cover their hair, when the natural step in advancing their culture was something totally different. We're all awash in information overload right now and there's no much of a foundation to work from. If you do have some soul, its preyed on and pimped out. Just look at what they did to Susan Boyle. They lifted her up, pimped her out and are beginning to tear her down in just a few weeks.
Personally, I think we're all having a 'culture shock' induced breeding/preservation instinct compulsion. When things get hairy, people always screw, get violent and comfortable taking more than they give. Its about seemingly demonstrating your strength, building up your resources and spreading your seed -- they all come down to self-preservation.
It was not so many years ago when there were serious restrictions on media concentration and it is now quite clear that it was a very serious mistake to weaken those rules. Our local television and radio stations need to returned to local ownership and different stations need to be in different hands. This is the way that we can return to a public that has easy access to a diversity of views and also to have access to information that is of strictly local interest.
Media concentration has led to the current situation in which the public only learns what a few corporations want them to know. This has led to extreme intolerance and rigid simplistic thinking that is detrimental to a democratic society. More narrowly, it has caused the political class to become fearful of how the media might treat them and to become fearful of taking positions that are opposed by the media leaders.
Of course the situation is complicated by the fact that the media owners are generally rich and powerful so that politicians are dependent on them for campaign funding as well as for how they might sway public opinion. Media reform will not address this other problem; its solution requires public campaign financing. However, part of media reform should be to require free public air time to candidates during their campaigns from media who benefit from the use of the public air waves or from discounted postage.
And it all hinges on getting the message to the people that the mass media is being controlled. The first step needs to be simple and basic and accessible to everyone. Once we restore freedom of the Press, we can work on just about anything.

This one is a mole, maybe CIA, OR WORSE, she gets paid you can bet for stating falsehoods , who ever the moderator is needs to cut her loose.
You lost me. Who is a mole, and what was the "falsehood?"
Oh, are you the lunatic from “End Imperial Presidency?” Are you stalking me? Please, please take your medicine.
So its come to calling people moles and using falsehood statements to claim falsehoods??
Is this the type of government dbaker007 would replace ours with?
-Deeply unsettling,
There's more than a few lunatics on here.
Does anyone know who owns Snopes?
(No ranting on particular issues please. Just a simple "who owns it?")
From Snopes.com FAQ:
Q: Who creates the material for this site?
A: With very few exceptions, all of the material on this site is prepared by the same people who operate this site, Barbara and David Mikkelson.
Q: Who pays you to maintain this site?
A: We have no sponsors, investors, or partners, nor do we have any affiliation or relationship (financial or otherwise) with any political party, religious group, business organization, or any other group or agency. We pay all the costs of producing and operating this web site ourselves and derive our income from the advertising revenues it provides.
Thanks.
Outfoxed examines how media empires, led by Rupert Murdoch's Fox News, have been running a "race to the bottom" in television news. This film provides an in-depth look at Fox News and the dangers of ever-enlarging corporations taking control of the public's right to know. “OUTFOXED: Rupert Murdoch’s War on Journalism” Link: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6737097743434902428
I am not fond of snopes, they are towing the corporate line by protecting many falsehoods. Such as the safety of fluoride, aspartame, monosodium glutamate and GMO grains. Snopes also agrees with the government assertion that 9/11 was Taliban, when in fact it was inside job done with thermite; loads of proof pointing to that conclusion. I am sure snopes gets a lot of Q&A right, just not all of them. They are not the discussion ending edifice of truth that they claim to be.
I don't get it. Are we packing up and moving to a new format, or are we stuck here on Troll island forever? Where is phase II and how does it work?
It's not very clear or inviting is it?
http://www.whitehouse.gov/open/
I still don't get it. Where are the issues? Any of the issues posted here?
Well the name is not good we know who owns the media. NOT US ---- YET WE OWN THE AIRWAVES HELLO ---PBS airs Bilderberg propaganda so does FOX and CNN- MSNBC and on and on.
maybe a name change how can take back the Media?
