NASA should focus on the big daunting tasks that we don't know how to do, like going to Mars, or diverting asteroids from hitting Earth. If you listen to people like Burt Rutan (see the link below), private industry is ready, willing and able to take on a contract to transport supplies, equipment and crew to and from the International Space Station. We now all understand that while the Space Shuttle Program accomplished import goals, ultimately it was over ambitious, inefficient and, well, boring.
