Term limits for ALL politicians

Why Is This Idea Important?: We have a dysfunctional Congress now, lets get rid of them after two terms and then we do not have to give them a retirement package, etc. Make them go on Social Security and Medicaid and live like the rest of us. Any pay that they receive , or benefits, should be voted on by the electorate! I have no respect for any of them and could not bring myself to call them "Honorable". They really should stop using that term when they are introduced, because they really are not!

All politicians should be limited to two terms! Look at our Congress; we have some people in there who have never worked a day in their lives. They have been feeding at the public trough their entire lives. When they die, and that seems to be the only way that we can get rid of them, they always seem to have a family member who steps in to fill in for them!

  1. Not sure about this. The reason? There are some I am so glad decided to spend their lives in service. They are doing a wonderful job on my behalf. Also, it takes a long time, so I understand, to hone the skills required to become effective. So once they are there and working well for me/us, I want to keep them. The issue is, I'd like to be able to recall those who are NOT doing well for us/on my behalf. Then the next issue is that it is likely we won't agree on what "doing well" means. Blanket term limits aren't the answer, I fear. But I think the idea of more transparency is. Shedding light on details so that the American public can understand what is going on in our behalf is a step in the right direction.

A suggestion posted by Halverson makes sense to me: raise the age limit for Congress to 55. That would limit the number of terms each person could have, and also might encourage them to have more experience outside politics before running for office (although they might stay longer in state govt unless those limits were also raised).

I am willing to sacrifice a good man to get rid of career politicians. The longer they are in office, the more corrupt they become. Due to voter apathy and often solely on name recognition, we are stuck with bad incumbents for years. It would also eliminate those who are in poor health and should have stepped down years ago but don't have the good sense to do so. I think we should also have mandatory retirement -- age 65 or 70.

An open government with all citizens participating should not need any "carrier politicians", so I expect they will all get "proper jobs". The structure of the Governemnt a swe have it will need to be dramatically altered, slimmed down (a very unpopular approach with Sir Humphries, as anyone who watched the British series "yes. Minister", and "Yes, Prime Minister" (I highly recommend this). All that will be needed will be to implement the decisions made by the citizens...

We have had too many decades of self-serving lifetime careerist members of Congress (both parties, both chambers) who have been setting their own Pay, Perks, and Pensions (and Pork, Big Time), and who have legalized their own bribery as they accept arm loads of cash from armies of lobbyists, then obediently deliver their votes as purchased.
