single payer health care

Why Is This Idea Important?: nothing more

The us is way behind the rest of the industrial world in health care . We need to get the insurance industry out of the system since there only ability is making money and blocking you from getting health care. Gov. provided health care is the only answer.

WRONG WRONG WRONG!!! It hasn't worked in any other country as of yet so why copy it? Its not big brothers job to care for us, it is our individual responsibility to do so.

You gotta be either an immigrant or democrat but either way you still an idiot!

I have used the single payer system in the UK, both times in emergency situations, and I was stunned at how superior it is to our system. My best friend who lived in London for three years noted that although the UK system is not perfect, she concurred with me that the UK system is far superior to ours and her taxes were only slightly higher than in the US but she got six weeks of vacation a year and all the holidays--more than we have in the US. We already have several single-payer systems here in the US and those who are covered by these systems like them: Medicare, the VA, and the military as well as congress. I pay $6000 a year in premiums and have a $6000 deductible. I eat an organic, plant-based diet, I do not smoke or drink, nor do I take drugs of any kind--legal or illegal, prescription or OTC--I also exercise for at least an hour a day, every day. You could raise my taxes by $8000 a year to pay for a single payer system and I would be ahead. However, we are excluded from the national discussion, we are arrested in Senate hearings, and we are laughed at my our elected representatives and those who bribe them with millions in campaign contributions, the health care special interest groups. This is a travesty.

Health care in the USA is seriously broken! The breakdown started with the introduction of malpractice lawsuits. Lawyers quickly learned they could get very rich suing doctors and medical facilities. Then, insurance companies learned they could get very rich writing malpractice insurance policies! Then, the drug companies learned they could get rich by advertising directly to the public all their new and very expensive "pills" for any conceivable ailment. By advertising, the "insured" public would immediately "demand" all these new drugs and the doctors, for fear of malpractice lawsuits, eagerly write prescriptions for drugs not necessarily needed nor effective. Then, when your medical insurance company discovers you are getting an expensive treatment, they drop you! Now you have a "record", and will nevermore (in your lifetime) be able to get affordable medical insurance!

This vicious, for profit system, does not work anymore!!! Then there is the problem of "double insurance"! Every employer is required to pay for Workers Compensation, a state administered program. Workers Comp. is a very corrupt system that requires businesses to pay for medical coverage for on the job injuries, even if the business already pays for general medical insurance. Always, when an insured person seeks medical assistance, the provider will do anything possible to classify the treatment as "job related". Why? Job related, Workers Comp. cases pay more, pay longer, and do not question billing charges!!!

The whole system is corrupt! Everyone profits, except the patient! Anyone in the USA who needs medical care is seriously at risk of being dumped and forgotten! Meanwhile, insurance premiums (all of them) continue to go up and up!

Small businesses are the true backbone of the US economy. Today, these small employers cannot afford to hire legal workers and provide medical insurance (twice). We read everyday of companies being raided and shut down for employing illegal immigrant workers. Why? Small businesses cannot survive today under current requirements for double coverage insurance which sucks businesses dry. But, no one cares to address this problem! Our "politicians" are controlled by lobbyists and do not respond to citizens who elected them! The system doesn't work! We need to get all lawyers, insurance companies and drug companies to behave in the interests of our working people. The huge profits extracted for no medical benefit must end. Small businesses must be able to survive, grow and prosper. This is the backbone of our economy!

In a free enterprise/capitalistic society, this could conceivably weaken the quality of health care that does exist, albeit very expensive.

    Right RIGHT RIGHT!

End private health insurance's dominance. They're just robber barons. I don't have coverage. I can't get coverage because of some poorly defined "too risky" excuse based on my genetics. Its BS. If I want to work for a big company I can get coverage, but I don't want to work that way. I have my own business and can't buy comparable coverage.

For-profit insurance deserves to be legislated out of existence. I've lived abroad and would like to see something like what I had in France. Don't let the lies that it doesn't work in other countries fool you. It works fine and we are the laughing stock of the civilized world on this issue.
