Making Government Operations More Open »

Let the GAO audit the CIA and NSA!

Why Is This Idea Important?: It's very important to keep your books clean.

Several presidential predecessors have failed to allow seasoned bureaucrats within the Government Accountability Office with the appropriate clearance levels audit our intelligence agencies. This creates a black mark on our record for transparency that we can and should wipe clean. Good books mean good government. Encourage our president to change this norm!

  1. Totally agree. If I were ever DNI my first act would be to create a GAO section and to integrate all the IGs across all the agencies.

See Open Source Agency for an implementation idea that will move partially toward what you are envisioning.

Obivously there is fraud in both. GH Bush formed the CIA. His son made them so weak they couldn't stop him.

People are on the streets and our debt generations out yet we have to go to Mars, etc. Well I don't care what's out there now. Unmaned space ships and travel are better.

It was not a good idea to privitize the National Weather station or NASA. Our dollars just go into a big "crony" hole. Have you noticed we always have some type of weather event across the country blocked out to about a third? Profit and lies about the weather for viewer ratings? The weather for sale.

Accountants from the GAO should review every agency...including the branches of government with the Congress, President, and Supremes.

stevensje, do you really support diverting money from the space program to welfare? Most modern technology, including microcomputers originated with the space program. Who know what the next valuable spin off will be
